  • Razor Gameplay

Razor's gameplay centers around his Elemental Burst which summons a Soul Companion wolf that fights alongside him for 15 seconds. During this state, Razor gains significantly increased Attack Speed, Electro RES, immunity to Electro-Charged damage, interruption resistance, and the wolf strikes alongside every Normal Attack dealing additional Electro damage. However, switching characters immediately ends the Burst, making Razor a "selfish" DPS who requires extended field time.

His Elemental Skill has two versions. The Press version swings his claw forward dealing Electro damage and gaining an Electro Sigil (up to 3 stacks) that increases his Energy Recharge. The Hold version slams the ground dealing AoE Electro damage and consuming all Electro Sigils to instantly restore energy. His A1 Passive reduces Claw and Thunder's cooldown by 18% and resets it when using Lightning Fang, enabling efficient rotation management.

His primary strengths include high Physical and Electro damage output during his Burst, excellent self-sufficiency with built-in Energy Recharge mechanics, strong Superconduct synergy for Physical builds through his Electro application, and versatility with viable Physical DPS, Electro DPS, Aggravate, and Hyperbloom build paths. He also provides utility through his passive that decreases all party members' sprinting Stamina Consumption by 20%.

  • Upcoming Hexerei Buffs (Version 6.2)

In the upcoming Version 6.2 update, Razor will receive significant buffs through the Hexerei Resonance mechanic after completing Witch's Homework: Razor. These buffs activate when paired with at least one other Hexerei character (Durin, Venti, Klee, Albedo, Mona, Fischl, or Sucrose).

The core buff dramatically enhances Razor's Elemental Burst mechanics. During his Elemental Burst, when Electro Sigil stacks overflow (gaining a 4th Sigil while already at 3), a lightning bolt will strike nearby enemies, dealing AoE Electro damage and restoring Energy to Razor. This effect can trigger once every 1 second, providing significant additional damage and energy regeneration during extended Burst uptime.

Additionally, Razor's Soul Companion wolf receives a damage boost during his Burst, dramatically increasing the Electro damage dealt with each Normal Attack. This transforms Razor from primarily a Physical DPS into a true hybrid character whose Electro damage becomes a much larger portion of his total output.

His constellations also receive significant enhancements in Version 6.2. Most notably, C6 gains powerful new effects: for 15 seconds after consuming Electro Sigils, Razor's CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG is increased.

These buffs address Razor's core issues by providing additional AoE damage (addressing his single-target focus), improved energy economy (reducing Burst downtime), and significantly increased damage ceiling (making him competitive in modern meta). The requirement to pair with another Hexerei character is easily met given the variety of strong options available (Fischl, Sucrose, Venti, etc.).

Razor Talent Priority

Razor's talent priority focuses on his Normal Attack and Elemental Burst, which are his primary damage sources during his Burst state.

TalentRecomended Level
Normal Attack9+
Elemental Burst9+
Elemental Skill6+

Normal Attack - Steel Fang

Level Razor's Normal Attack first or alongside his Elemental Burst. His Normal Attack performs up to 4 consecutive strikes with his claymore, and these attacks form the core of his damage output during his Burst state. For Physical builds, Normal Attack scaling directly determines his primary damage source. Even for Electro/Aggravate builds, Normal Attacks contribute significantly to total damage.

Elemental Burst - Lightning Fang

Level Razor's Elemental Burst alongside his Normal Attack. Lightning Fang summons the Soul Companion wolf that deals additional Electro damage with every Normal Attack, increases Attack Speed, and provides interruption resistance. The wolf's damage scales directly with this talent level, making it essential for both Physical and Electro builds.

With Version 6.2 Hexerei buffs, the Soul Companion's damage is increased by 70%, making this talent even more valuable. The new lightning strike mechanic on Sigil overflow also scales with talent investment, further emphasizing the importance of leveling this ability.

Elemental Skill - Claw and Thunder

Level Razor's Elemental Skill last. The Skill's Press version deals moderate Electro damage and generates Electro Sigils for Energy Recharge, while the Hold version consumes Sigils for instant energy restoration. The damage scaling is lower priority than Normal Attack and Burst, but the Skill is essential for energy management and triggering Superconduct/Aggravate reactions.

At C4, enemies hit by the Press version have their DEF decreased by 15% for 7 seconds, making Skill usage valuable for debuffing even without high talent levels.

Razor Constellations

Razor is functional at C0 but benefits significantly from constellation upgrades. As a 4-star character appearing regularly on banners and in the shop, most players will naturally acquire constellations over time.

razor constellation

C1 Performance

Picking up an Elemental Orb or Particle increases Razor's DMG by 10% for 8s.

C1 provides a modest damage increase that's easy to maintain given Razor's frequent particle generation through his Skill. The 10% DMG boost is unconditional and applies to all damage sources. While not transformative, it provides consistent value throughout combat.

C2 Performance

Increases CRIT Rate against opponents with less than 30% HP by 10%.

C2 provides a finishing bonus that helps secure kills on low-health enemies. The 10% CRIT Rate increase applies to all attacks, making it valuable for bursting down targets. Synergizes with Wolf's Gravestone's passive that also triggers against low-HP enemies.

C4 Performance

When casting Claw and Thunder (Press), enemies hit will have their DEF decreased by 15% for 7s.

C4 is Razor's best constellation prior to C6 and represents an excellent stopping point. The 15% DEF reduction is a team-wide damage amplifier affecting all party members' attacks, not just Razor's. The debuff has 100% uptime since the 7-second duration exceeds the Tap Skill cooldown (reduced by his A1 Passive).

C6 Performance

Every 10s, Razor's sword charges up, causing the next Normal Attack to release lightning that deals 100% of Razor's ATK as Electro DMG. When Razor is not using Lightning Fang, a lightning strike on an enemy will grant Razor an Electro Sigil for Claw and Thunder.

C6 provides additional burst damage every 10 seconds and improved Sigil generation outside of his Burst. The lightning strike provides consistent AoE Electro damage without requiring Skill usage. The Sigil generation helps maintain Burst uptime during downtime periods.

With Version 6.2 Hexerei buffs, C6 receives a dramatic enhancement: for 15 seconds after consuming Electro Sigils, Razor's CRIT Rate is increased by 10% and CRIT DMG is increased by 50%. This massive CRIT boost transforms C6 Razor into a significantly more powerful damage dealer, potentially adding 30-40% total damage increase. This makes C6 the most valuable stopping point for Razor investment.

Conclusion

This comprehensive guide demonstrates Razor's position as a versatile and accessible 4-star Main DPS in Genshin Impact. His multiple viable build paths including Physical DPS, Electro/Aggravate, and Hyperbloom provide flexibility for different team compositions and playstyles. While he faces competition from newer characters in raw damage ceiling, his self-sufficient kit, strong Superconduct synergy, and stamina consumption utility ensure he remains a solid choice for players who enjoy his playstyle.

With the upcoming Version 6.2 Hexerei buffs, Razor is poised to receive significant enhancements that address his core weaknesses. The lightning strikes on Sigil overflow provide AoE damage and energy restoration, the Soul Companion damage boost dramatically increases his Electro output, and the enhanced C6 grants massive CRIT bonuses that push his damage ceiling significantly higher. These updates transform the wolf boy from a nostalgic early-game character into a competitive option for Hexerei team compositions, particularly when paired with characters like Fischl, Sucrose, and the new character Durin.

To fully unlock Razor's potential and enhance your overall team power, consider topping up Genshin Impact resources through reliable top-up services to acquire the in-game currency needed for upgrades, weapons, and essential gear, ensuring that Razor and your other characters are ready for any challenge.
