  • Catcher Gameplay and Playstyle

Catcher is a Physical Defender who supports Physical teams by applying Vulnerability and Weaken through his Battle Skill Rigid Interdiction and Ultimate Textbook Assault. His kit revolves around raising his shield to protect allies and retaliate against attacking enemies, applying Vulnerability in the process to set up Physical Statuses for his teammates. His Ultimate simplifies this by directly applying Weaken and Knock Down in an AoE, stacking two beneficial debuffs in a single cast. His Combo Skill, Timely Suppression, rounds out his kit by granting shields to himself and the controlled operator scaled on his DEF, while his Resilient Defense talent converts Will investment into DEF, making Will a doubly valuable stat that improves both his shield strength and overall bulk.

Catcher Skill Priority

SkillPriorityReason

Basic Tactics

(Basic Attack)

★★Decent source of personal damage and Stagger. You'll spend most of your time on basic attacks while waiting for skills to come off cooldown, so leveling this is worthwhile.

Rigid Interdiction

(Battle Skill)

★★★High priority. Provides on-demand Protection to allies, returns SP on use, and applies Vulnerability through retaliation — all core to his support role. Each level increases his retaliation damage.

Timely Suppression

(Combo Skill)

Low priority. Shields only himself and one teammate for a short window with a very long cooldown. Leveling it extends shield duration slightly, but doesn't change how he's played.

Textbook Assault

(Ultimate)

★★★High priority. His most reliable source of Vulnerability and Weaken, applying both in a single AoE cast. Level this alongside his Battle Skill for consistent Physical Status setup.

Catcher Best Weapons and Essence Priority

Catcher is a Greatsword Defender who scales mainly with Strength and Will. His kit revolves around applying Protection, Vulnerability, and Weaken to support Physical teams, so weapon choices should prioritize DEF scaling and effects that reward his shielding and protection loop.

OBJ Heavy Burden is the clear best-in-slot, providing Strength and HP alongside a massive DEF boost whenever he applies Knock Down or Weaken, directly scaling his Combo Skill shield value through his Resilient Defense talent. All other options offer more situational benefits: Former Finery provides high Will and HP while healing Protected operators whenever they take damage under his Battle Skill, adding sustain he otherwise lacks entirely; Seeker of Dark Lung offers Ultimate Gain Efficiency and Strength for faster Ultimate cycling, though its weapon effect goes entirely unused by Catcher; and Industry 0.1 is a last resort option, providing Strength and a strong ATK boost on Battle Skill hits at significantly lower base values than the options above.

Catcher Best Gear Set

For Catcher, in the early game, just use gear that provides Strength and Will stats to increase his overall bulk. For endgame, the Eternal Xiranite set is the best and only recommended option, buffing the team's damage whenever Catcher applies Amp, Protection, Susceptibility, or Weaken. Individual pieces are adjusted with the Tidefall Light Armor as the off-piece for additional Ultimate gain.

Catcher Best Teams

For Catcher's best teams, Catcher works best in teams that can consistently apply Vulnerability and take advantage of his Weaken and Protection support from Timely Suppression and Textbook Assault. He benefits most from teammates that can reliably stack Vulnerability, deal heavy Physical DMG, and utilize the debuffs he provides to trigger powerful Crush and Breach setups. Catcher prefers structured rotations where his Ultimate is woven in consistently to apply Weaken and Vulnerability, while his Battle Skill is timed carefully around incoming enemy attacks to avoid disrupting the team's flow.

Catcher Best Potentials

P1: Multi-layered Readiness
  • Rating - ★★★ (Good)
  • Potential Effect - Battle skill Rigid Interdiction and ultimate Textbook Assault improved: After hitting the enemy, deals another strike that deals [300 + DEF×5.0] of Physical DMG.
  • Reason - Adds an extra Physical DMG strike after his Battle Skill and Ultimate hit, directly scaling with his DEF. A meaningful damage boost that rewards investing in his signature stat.
P2: Bonus Spec Training
  • Rating - ★★ (Mid)
  • Potential Effect - DEF +20, Will +10.
  • Reason - A straightforward stat boost to DEF and Will, both of which contribute to his shielding and bulk. Decent but not a significant investment breakpoint.
P3: Unwavering Post
  • Rating - ★★★ (Good)
  • Potential Effect - Combo skill Timely Suppression improved: Shield duration +5s.
  • Reason - Extends his Combo Skill shield duration by 5 seconds, improving its otherwise limited uptime. A meaningful quality-of-life improvement but still not enough to make the shield a reliable sustained defensive tool.
P4: Compensated Suffering
  • Rating - ★★★ (Good)
  • Potential Effect - Ultimate Textbook Assault improved: Ultimate Energy cost -10%.
  • Reason - Reduces his Ultimate energy cost by 10%, making Textbook Assault more accessible and improving the consistency of his Weaken and Vulnerability application.
P5: Choice without Regrets
  • Rating - ★★★★ (Very Good)
  • Potential Effect - Battle skill Rigid Interdiction improved: Hitting an enemy while the shield is active returns 10 SP.
  • Reason - Returns additional SP whenever he hits an enemy while his shield is active, improving his SP efficiency during his Battle Skill window. A strong quality-of-life boost that keeps his rotation flowing more smoothly.

Conclusion

Catcher is a reliable Physical Defender who excels at applying Weaken and Vulnerability to support his teammates and enable powerful Crush and Breach. He fits best in Physical teams built around Endministrator, and his status as a 4-star Operator makes him one of the most accessible and cost-efficient supports to invest in for both new and veteran players.
