As progressing ahead in the game requires constant progression and base improvement, you need the help of your loyal Tribesmen. The Tribesmen are the recruitable NPCs in Soulmask. Think of them like your loyal workers at the base who will gather materials, manage food, craft, farm, and provide combat support when needed. In simple words, the Tribesmen help you automate your base, freeing you from worrying about managing the base while you make steps for progress. However, recruiting and managing NPCs can be confusing initially, and we will help you understand the core mechanics in this Soulmask Tribe Guide.

How to Recruit NPCs in Soulmask
Recruiting the NPCs in Soulmask includes multiple steps, which are as follows.
- Find Targets
- Deter the Captures
- Build Recognition (500)
- Recruit
All of these steps are essential for every NPC that you want to add to your tribe. Moreover, adding NPCs with different proficiencies and talents is more effective than adding any random men to your tribe. Higher-level and elite enemies are always the smart choice, as they are better workers with strong proficiencies. However, capturing such NPCs from the camps and fortresses will require cautious gameplay, as you don’t want to get killed by them. Looking to buy Soulmask to start your own adventure? LootBar offers a great deal for it.
Find Suitable Targets to Recruit
You can find a wide variety of targets from different tribes like Fang, Claw, and Flint. All of these tribes have NPCs, including Barbarians, Outcasts, Hunters, Craftsman, Guards, Porters, and more. Each NPC has unique skill levels (proficiencies) in certain categories. If you are looking for an NPC with proficiency in the Combat Weapons skill, then a Barbarian would be an eligible choice.
After figuring out which NPCs you want to add to your tribesmen, you need to find them in the world. Open the map and look at the POIs of camps, villages, barracks, fortresses, and roaming groups. All of these are main locations for you to find a bunch of NPCs. Moreover, if you want some of the new NPCs, specifically from the Shifting Sands (DLC), then you need to check the desert camps, oasis, and pyramids.
How to Deter the Targets
Once you are at one of the main locations, scout the area using the Horus Mask. It will show you the level of each NPC in the radius. Now, the next step is to attack the NPC and reduce their health to 20%. You have to be careful not to kill the NPC. Use basic attacks to deplete their HP to 20%, and then you will get the option to Deter them. Press the interaction (E) key to deter them, making them unconscious.
How to Build Recognition to 500
The NPC will gain Recognition passively over time, but you need to bring the NPC over to your base to speed up the process. Place the NPC on a bed, and wait for the recognition to build up to 500 points. While the recognition is building, NPC's hunger and hydration will decrease over time. If the hunger and dehydration are low, you must feed them soup to keep the recognition going. Moreover, you can also heal the NPC by applying a bandage to them.
How to Recruit the Targets to Tribesmen
Once the recognition builds up to 500, the “Recruit” option becomes available. Press the interaction (E) key to welcome the NPC to your tribe.
How to Manage NPCs in Soulmask
After recruiting NPCs to your tribe, you must first get familiar with their proficiencies, which they excel in. You must assign them the work accordingly so that they level up effectively. Each NPC levels up when they work, support you in combat, or when you control them. After every 10 Levels, the NPC earns a new advantage talent to make them even more effective in their role. To assign a job to your tribesmen in Soulmask, press I and then select the Tribesmen Work Tab option. This opens up the roles that you can assign to your tribesmen.
- Breeder
- Combat Followers
- Crafters
- Farmers
- Gatherers
- Support
You have to assign the Work Type, Location, and Goal to the NPCs for them to work properly. Once assigned through the work tab, the NPCs will start working accordingly. If there are any gatherers in the tribesmen, you can point them towards nodes by placing map markers. The gatherers will collect the stones and ores and bring them to sorted chests.
How to Keep NPCs Happy in Soulmask
In addition to assigning work to the NPCs, it is crucial that you provide them with appropriate tools, weapons, and gear. More importantly, if you want the tribesmen to stay, you must keep them happy. If their mood bar is not red, then you might want to look into the problem, or they can leave the tribe for good. For a potential happy mood, build the following amenities.
- Bathtub
- Statues
- Dining Tables
- Outhouse
- Chairs
- Quality Food & Drinks
All of these early amenities will help you just fine with the happiness of the NPCs. Moreover, the base comfort also helps with happiness. Provide the NPCs with good clothing, gear items, and food to keep up their recognition. If there is any breeder in your tribe, make sure to assign them to animals for meat and leather. Another thing that is worth mentioning is that you can also send tribesmen to other outposts. This is the recent feature added to the Shifting Sands DLC, so it is a worthwhile feature and helps you earn more rewards.
Conclusion
Recruiting and managing the tribesmen in Soulmask is essential to automating your base. It is best to have a variety of workers at your base to look after the loom, carpentry, farming, gathering, etc. Moreover, recruiting Barbarians can help you with support in difficult fights. However, you have to be careful, as the tribesmen can die permanently. It is best to provide them with bandages, food, and supplies so that they can survive. If you do not take care of your tribesmen, they can leave the tribe. If you are looking to purchase the Soulmask Steam Key, LootBar has you covered.
