Soulmask: Everything We Know So Far

Soulmask was initially released in Early Access, with a unique premise where tribal management was merged with ancient technology. The game had a massive open-world system and built a consistent player base, but there was no news about an impending full release. That has now changed, as the release date and other details about the full version have been revealed. Here’s everything from Soulmask’s release date to what changes it will have compared to the Early Access.

Background and Story

Combat in Soulmask.

You start as a survivor of a deadly sacrificial ritual, and soon get your hands on a mythical mask. The mask grants you unique powers, increasing the chances of your survival. You are tasked with building your own tribe by recruiting members and gathering resources, while aided by the mask. The mask’s backstory is hinted at but isn’t fleshed out, and this may change with the full release. If you want to give the Early Access a spin before buying the full version, you can get it from LootBar!

Game Genre, Gameplay, and DLC

Soulmask is a vast open world survival sandbox game which is centered on managing your tribe and strategy in battle. The main goal of the players is to create and handle their own tribe, discovering the world, combating enemies, living through tough nature, and gathering materials. After your tribe grows, you will be able to give each member a role. Collecting resources will be one of their tasks, while some can assist fighting. The magical mask bestows you with powers which will help you in fighting and exploring. The mask is very helpful in survival as well as in executing most strategies.

Soulmask’s full version will introduce three individual game modes: Survival, Management, and Hero. This will allow players to choose whether they want to focus on exploration, tribe building, or combat. The tribesmen will also be revamped, learning and sharing skills to become stronger. They will have more depth rather than following commands like robots. More masks will be introduced, granting different powers, allowing for varying strategies. Combat is changing significantly, with the introduction of a transformation feature that will allow you to take control of deities and warriors.

Soulmask’s Shifting Sands DLC

Soulmask’s Shifting Sands DLC,

The full release isn’t the only thing players are getting, as the game’s first major DLC will also be released simultaneously. The expansion will build on the mask system by introducing Egyptian God-themed masks that will allow you to transform into their avatars. The masks introduced in the early access, in contrast, offered buffs and unique abilities, but not transformations.

Four new masks will be added:

  • Horus Mask - Celestial Wings: The mask will allow you to become the sky god, fly, and dive-bomb enemies.

  • Anubis Mask - Doomsday Judgment: This mask allows players to become the underworld’s guardian, defeat enemies with curses, and even resurrect enemies so they can fight for you.

  • Sobek Mask - Abyssal Overlord: You embody the crocodile god and can use water to imprison enemies.

  • Amun-Ra Mask - Glorious Hymn: The mask turns you into the sun god, allowing you to use sunlight to destroy enemies.

Live-on-Your-Ship Survival System is another addition that will allow players to build and customize ships. You can then use the ships for transportation or to protect your tribe from danger.

The following ships will be added to the game:

  • Small Wooden Boat: A fast and easily accessible ship that you can customize.

  • Falcon-Class Solar Airship: A mid-sized ship that has substantial space and modular capacity.

All ships allow modular construction, and you can add the following systems:

  • Anti-gravity engines

  • Sand skins

  • Functional modules, such as speed sails and consoles

  • Weapons

The expansion will also introduce a dynamic day and night cycle, along with new survival challenges in Egyptian-style deserts. You will also get to battle new bosses, which adds another challenge.

While the premise isn’t new, the way Soulmask went about it resonated with fans, and the Early Access was a hit. Now, the full version of the game is ready for release, and players will get many new mechanics and content. If you haven't tried the Early Access, you can get the Steam Key while you wait for the full release.
