Wooden Board
The Wooden Board is the first melee weapon you will get. You will find it on a chair in the house that you have to go through at the start of the game in South Vale. It is just a starting weapon and intentionally has less power. Its only function is to introduce you to the game’s actual combat system. It is also not that effective. You will need around 6 hits to defeat a standard enemy.

Handgun
The Handgun is your next upgrade after the Steel Pipe. You will find it in Room 217 in Wood Side Apartments which is on the west side of Katz Street. The biggest strength of the handgun is that you will easily and consistently find its ammunition so you can use it regularly without having to worry about your resources. First you have to visit Brookhaven Hospital and solve the padlock puzzle in the reception office to get the basement key. After that enter the basement, power the elevator, go up to floor 2F and enter the Women’s Locker Room. You will find the Shotgun there waiting for you. It is a lot more powerful than the Handgun and you can defeat powerful enemies like Bubblehead Nurses in just a single shot. But it has limited ammo.

After doing all these once you get the Armory Key you can finally get the Rifle. It has no special use and its only speciality is that it is the most powerful gun in the game.
