Best Pokémon TCG Pocket Mew Ex Build and Strategy Guide

As the headliner for Pokemon TCG Pocket's latest expansion, Mythical Island, there's been a lot of hype over Mew EX and what it brings to the table when it comes to deck building. On paper, it seems staggeringly flexible. Now, with the expansion having had time to set, Mew EX finds itself in a fascinating position within the current metagame.

If you're a fan of Mew EX and looking to incorporate it into your decks, you're in luck. Today, we'll be guiding you through building optimal Mew EX decks. With such a flexible card, we'll be seeing some varied decks today. So, let's get right into it.

What Makes Mew EX So Good?

Mew EX has a couple of traits that make it such an interesting card. First off, its main attack Genome Hacking, allows you to copy an opponent’s attack. This in of itself makes it a counter to some of the best Pokemon cards in the current meta. Mewtwo EX gets hard countered by its own Psydrive. That carefully built Charizard EX? One shot by its own attack in one turn.

The other aspect of Mew EX that bolsters it is Genome Hacking only requiring three colourless energy. Because of this, Mew EX can slot into practically any deck and get to work. It doesn’t reap any element specific benefits outside of Psychic decks, yes. But, if your deck struggles against heavy hitters, Mew EX can provide you with a way to play around them.

Finally, Mew EX has access to the Budding Expeditioner card. With this, you can use Mew EX a lot more flexibly. Want to use Mew EX as an early game tank while you build a threat on your bench? Use Budding Expeditioner and now you have a fresh Mew EX. If you need more Poké Gold for boosters, consider getting them from LootBar.gg,  for a cheaper and safer experience.

Deck 1: Mew EX + Mewtwo EX Deck

Mew EX + Mewtwo EX Deck

Mew EX + Mewtwo EX Deck that combines great power with accelerated energy building and the ability to counter most big-hitters for low commitment.

This is easily Mew EX’s best deck in the current meta. Here, Mew EX supplements Mewtwo EX in various ways. You can use it as an early game stall tank blasting 20 damage Psyshots to keep opponents on their toes. Then, once Gardevoir is online or Mewtwo is built enough for a Psydrive, you can retreat Mew EX or use Budding Expeditioner to get Mew EX refreshed.

Now, if Gardevoir is online, find some time to put one Psychic energy on Mew EX so it’s primed for a counter. When Mewtwo EX finds itself in danger against a greater threat like Charizard EX, either let it get KO’ed or retreat it for Mew EX. Allow your Gardevoir battery and free bench energy to complete the three energy requirement, and oneshot the opposing threat.

This is one of the best current meta decks, with an incredibly solid 60% projected win-rate and solid tournament showings. If consistency and wins are your priority, then this is the deck for you. Very little counters it, and even those counters rely on the luck of the draw to win.

Deck 2: Exeggutor EX + Mew EX

Exeggutor EX + Mew EX

Exeggutor EX + Mew EX, a set of cards that are based almost entirely around outlasting your opponent. A strong deck if you like the long game.

This deck is surprisingly consistent, though it does possess the capacity to brick early. However, on the upside, it can be shockingly difficult to take down once it gets going. Exeggutor EX pulls main early and middle game duty here, with the deck solely relying on Grass energy for this reason.

Exeggutor EX’s tankiness, Erika heals and capacity to launch 40 or 80 damage attacks for one energy makes it excellent for stalling. It does substantial damage to most cards, and allots you time to search for Mew EX. If you do draw Mew EX first however, stall with its high health until Exeggcute and Exeggutor EX pop up. Then, pull the Budding Expeditioner to start the plan.

Ideally, by the time Exeggutor EX gets taken down by deadly high damage threats, you’ll have gained at least a few points and your Mew EX will be fully energized. If you need more time, hopefully Florges will also be online to stall a bit more. When ready, launch your counterattack, and attempt to secure the win.

As an off-meta deck, Exeggutor EX + Mew EX doesn’t have as many showings for winrate boasting, but it has surprisingly great matchup ratios against top meta decks like Celebi EX and Gyarados EX.

Deck 3:  Frosmoth + Greninja + Mew EX

Frosmoth + Greninja + Mew EX

Frosmoth + Greninja + Mew EX, a slow burn deck that surgically dismantles opponents. Requires more strategic thought than most decks, but can counter practically anything with enough forethought and some luck.

Once again, Mew EX plays more of a support role here. Frosmoth + Greninja decks have been surprising staples for a while now, and the addition of Mew EX provides the deck with the counter-killing backbone that it’s been missing. Now, once you’re done building your Frosmoth and Greninja, Mew EX can come online to counter the high HP threats.

Building Frosmoth always takes priority. Its ability to put opponents to sleep providing excellent stalling potential. Then, where you’d use to build Greninja immediately, now you have the option of building Mew EX instead. Against high damage targets, Mew EX can be far more effective. Greninja meanwhile can be built with Misty, or not built at all and just provide backline support.

With this configuration, you can now adjust your gameplan mid-match. This provides Frosmoth + Greninja decks the ability to break down game-ending threats that the deck used to struggle to counter. Greninja has always been one of the strongest off-meta decks, and this skyrocketed the deck winrates to well-above 45%.

FAQs

Q1: Is Mew EX a powerful card?

A: Yes, Mew EX is powerful, but situational. It’s great as a counter to high-energy requirement big hitter cards. It can also work incredibly well as a tank, thanks to the Budding Expeditioner card allowing you to withdraw it for free, bringing it back to full health and preventing your opponent from getting points.

Q2: What do I do if I haven’t gotten Mew EX?

A: The only way you can get Mew EX is either by drawing it from the Mythical Island booster pack, or through a lucky Wonder Pick. You can use money to open more boosters via Poke Gold, which we recommend you get from LootBar, the most trusted source for in-game currency at a reasonable price. To increase your chances of obtaining Mew EX, consider to top up Pokemon TCG Pocket and boost your resources. A strategic Top Up can provide you with more opportunities to pull the coveted Mew EX card, enhancing your deck-building options.

Q3: Are these the only options for Mew EX decks?

A: No, Mew EX is special in that it can fit on almost any type of deck. Whether it’ll be useful or not is another story, but we recommend trying things out, have fun with it!

Conclusion

With that, we’ve covered most of the meta-relevant Mew EX decks. While it’s not the type of card that can headline its own deck, having Mew EX support adds so much coverage for other deck types. Even with this, we’ve barely scratched the surface of the potential decks Mew EX can fit into.

We recommend taking inspiration from the decks we’ve listed here today, and trying something new on your own. Whether it works or not, remains to be seen. What’s important is that you have fun throwing things at the wall. If you haven’t drawn Mew EX however, consider reloading your Poke Gold with Lootbar, the safest option for better deals!
