About Hydreigon Card
If you’re just recently playing or an old player who just got back to the game, Pokémon TCGP has the Mega Rising update that added a lot of strong cards to the game, one of which is Hydreigon. With 150 HP, it can easily be one of the most durable Pokémons out there, especially when paired with Support Pokémon. However, it’s not a basic Pokémon, so you’ll still need to make a few evolutions first. On top of the high HP pool, you get an offensive skill called Hyper Ray that can easily deal 130 damage while removing all the Energy. Its Roar in Unison skill can add 2 additional Energy to this Pokémon at the cost of 30 damage. So, it would be best to combine it with other Pokémons. If you still don’t have them, better depend on Lootbar for that.
The Best Hydreigon Deck Builds
Using Hydreigon alone isn’t likely a good idea since you will have to reduce 30 health every time you use its Ability Skill. So, you will need some way to counter this health reduction, preferably with a Support Pokémon. Other than that, combining Hydreigon with other Offensive Pokémon is also a good idea since you can deal more damage that way. To find the best deck builds for this card, see below.
Hydreigon and Mega Absol ex Deck
After having the Mega Rising Pack update, a lot of players have been favoring Mega Absol ex over anything else. The reason for that is simple: it has a huge HP pool and an annoying ability. Mega Absol ex’s ability is Darkness Claw, which can reveal the enemy’s hand and discard a Support Card. This is indeed very annoying because Support Cards are essential in this game.
However, Mega Absol ex’s attack isn’t that huge in number. Although 80 is good, it’s not quite strong against so many ex Pokémon. Therefore, we can fill the gap by adding Pokémon TCGP Hydreigon. For dealing serious damage that can eliminate most Pokémons, use Hydreigon and its Hyper Ray. Since you will basically have 2 free Energy, Hydreigon is really usable as early as the third round of the battle.
Solo Hydreigon Deck
If you still don’t have any good cards around, you can use Hydreigon as the main attacker. Its attack can easily deal 130 damage, which can defeat any Pokémon in two turns. However, unleashing Hyper Ray would deal 30 damage to your health each time, so you need to find a way to mitigate it. The answer here is the Support. When using Hydreigon, you will need Support Cards to find the basic Pokémon for Hydreigon’s evolution as quickly as possible. For this, you can use Rare Candy and Poke Ball. To cover the damage, use Lillie, which can heal 60 health for any Stage 2 Pokémon. Potion Cards are also good. If you want alternative cards, make your top-up at Lootbar and pull better ones.
Hydreigon and Tauros ex Deck
For this deck, you will need Tauros ex, Darkari ex, and of course, Hydreigon. The strategy here is to use Tauros ex in the Active Spot as soon as possible. Its Wild Tackle can deal 90 damage, although it comes with a price. Use Will to make all the flips to heads, which eliminates the consequences of Tauros ex’s attack. In the bench, you can use Darkarar ex to help defeat the enemies using Nightmare Aura to passively deal 20 damage each time you pull an Energy. For cleaning the field, finally use Hydreigon to deal some serious damage to the remaining Pokémon that are still standing.
The Best Hydreigon Deck Strategy
Hydreigon is one of those Pokémon that can stand on its own. This Stage 2 Pokémon has Roar in Unison to collect 2 additional Energy, meaning that you can get the attack so quickly just by summoning it. However, this ability erases all the Energy completely, but it doesn’t matter. On the next turn, you can easily get three Energy just by using Roar in Unison. Do note that you will have to deal with 30 self-damage every time you use it. To counter it, have some Potions or Support Cards with healing abilities. Lillie can heal for 60 points, which is good enough for Hydreigon. With this card, you can basically deal 260 damage with no consequences at all.
Another thing about Hydreigon is the fact that it’s a Stage 2 Pokémon. So, to find the basic Pokémon, you will also need some Support Cards, like Poke Ball, Cleffa, and Rare Candy. Having these around can greatly increase the chance of obtaining the basic Pokémon for Hydreigon's evolution.
Combining Hydreigon with a powerful partner, like Mega Absol ex is also a very good strategy against all types of enemies. Using Mega Absol ex’ abilities, you can easily eliminate the enemies’ options by erasing their Support Cards. This ability, when combined with Hydreigon’s Hyper Ray, is really hard to beat.
How to Counter Hydreigon Deck
Hydreigon will keep damaging itself when it uses Roar in Unison. So the best strategy here is to deal as much damage as you can with your strongest Pokémons. Since this Pokémon is really dependent on Support Cards, use Genga ex that can easily counter it. If they pull Hydreigon back to the bench, use Support Cards that can put it back to the active spot to receive more damage from your Pokémons.
Conclusion
Hydreigon is a really good card to have. Although it’s not an ex card, it can easily stand on its own without relying on other Pokémons. It can collect 2 free Energy and can deal 130 damage easily each turn. So if you want to really get it, better make a Pokémon TCG Pocket top up and collect your best cards.
