While Arceus EX is the big headlining card from the new Pokemon TCG Pocket mini-set, Triumphant Light, it’s not the only EX card introduced. Glaceon EX is one of the new cards added in the latest update that thankfully doesn’t rely on Arceus EX to be functional. But with so many powerful Water-type EX cards available, how do you squeeze the most out of Glaceon EX? By the way, if you are lack of Poke Gold, don't hesitate to check out LootBar to top up Pokemon TCG Pocket.
Glaceon EX Rundown
Glaceon is a fan favourite Pokemon, but its representation in Pokemon TCG Pocket is fairly lacking in firepower. With its ability and typing, Glaceon EX decks are better when played defensively, especially with the addition of the new Irida trainer card in Triumphant Light. What you lack in pure damage, you make up for in consistent damage and survivability, which what Glaceon EX decks are built around.
This is, of course, only if you’ve already drawn a Glaceon EX. If you’re a huge fan of Glaceon but haven’t managed to get one, don’t worry. LootBar offers affordable and safe options for purchasing in-game currency like Pokegold. Save your money, and secure your Glaceon EX with LootBar today. Now, onto the decks!
Deck 1: Glaceon EX + Articuno EX
This is Glaceon EX’s strongest deck as of right now, and it’s surprisingly consistent. With the support of Articuno EX, Misty and Irida, this deck chips away at your opponent while staying healthy. You always want your starter to be Manaphy here, and immediately getting a head-start on energy. Get Articuno EX online as quickly as possible, since Blizzard does reasonably good damage and chip.
While Articuno stalls with Blizzard and ideally Rocky Helmet, you’ll want to build Glaceon. The goal from here is to stack enough damage on the enemy team for Glaceon to take out any card easier during the endgame. Irida does a lot to help with Articuno’s longevity, and can also be used to help Glaceon stall if needed.
Dawn, Leaf and Misty are here for more effective energy control, allowing you to retain momentum while retreating if needed. Cyrus allows you to snipe any Pokemon on the enemy team after an Articuno Blizzard. Outside of that, you want to simply last as long as possible. The longer your Pokemon live, the higher your chances are of winning the game.
Where this deck struggles is against Pokemon with high damage and low energy cost. Cards like Infernape EX can be built incredibly quickly and take out your team before you build enough momentum. Arceus EX thankfully can’t one-shot without Giovanni, though Glaceon EX is weak to Dialga EX, another prominent meta threat at the moment.
Deck 2: Glaceon EX + Greninja
While the passive damage meta has fallen off a little bit, this deck makes surprisingly good use of the mechanic. Glaceon EX excels in more defensive teams, so it only makes sense to build it around one of the strongest defensive cores of the game, Greninja + Druddigon. While once again, the overall damage is lacking, this deck makes up for it in versatility and longevity.
The gameplan here is surprisingly simple. Set up Druddigon as your active card, and get a Rocky Helmet on it immediately. From there, stall as much as possible so you can build your deck, and then attempt a sweep. Glaceon EX can potentially one-shot most Pokemon after Druddigon chip damage, and with Greninja support, you’re potentially hitting 150 damage a turn.
Use Greninja’s Water Shuriken wisely, making sure every card on your opponent’s deck is within KO-range for Glaceon EX. You can also swap in Greninja for some light attacking or to take a hit if you’ve only had one KO taken from you so far. With some careful planning, this deck can take down a lot of threats. Just remember, while you’re stalling, your opponent is also building their deck.
The trainer cards on this deck are pretty self-explanatory. Professor Oak and Pokeballs allow you to draw more cards quicker. Your single Irida gives you some extra healing if needed, which can come in clutch at times. Of course, the deck can still brick, but it’s flexible enough that you can often figure out a secondary strategy.
Deck 3: Glaceon EX + Palkia EX
Palkia EX is easily the strongest Water-type attacker in the current meta, so why not pair it with Glaceon EX? What brings Glaceon EX value in this deck is how it gives teams a buffer between Manaphy and Palkia, allowing you some extra time to build Palkia for the end-game. Glaceon EX thus serves as a mid-game card, which it does surprisingly well.
As with any water deck, you want to start with Manaphy supplying Eevee and Palkia with energy as quickly as possible. Paired with Dawn, this allows Glaceon EX to begin attacking as soon as turn 4. From here, you’ll want to keep Glaceon EX alive as long as possible. While Glaceon stalls and does damage, build your Palkia EXes on your bench until they’re ready to attack.
If Glaceon EX manages to survive, you can retreat it and bring out Palkia EX to start doing big damage and hopefully end the game. Alternatively, if you don’t pull Glaceon early, you can also build Palkia first and use it as the mid-game buffer. After one Dimensional Storm, there should be enough collateral damage for Glaceon to pull in late game and sweep.

This deck lives and dies on energy management, so getting Manaphy as your starter is essential. While you can still salvage a game with a good Misty roll, not getting Manaphy at start seriously cripples your deck. Otherwise, the rest of the deck plays as you would expect, and it doesn’t get countered by much other than luck.
