Event Overview

Mega Shine

Aside from the new cards, there are tons of events that can keep the players engaged. For example, there is a Mega Shine Emblem Event from March 29 to April 8, 2026. This new event, like any other Emblem event, lets the players battle each other and win special emblems after several consecutive wins.

Remember that at this point, many players have collected a lot of stronger cards from previous events, so it’s always wise to check the current meta and build new decks to counter them. It’s recommended to use really solid decks, like Mega Scizor ex,  Mega Absol ex, and Mega Altaria ex.

There are also some missions that players can complete to collect rewards. The rewards include accessories, trade hourglasses, and more. Starting from April 9 to April 19, 2026, there’s the Slowpoke Drop Event, where players can take solo battles against Slowpoke decks. Tackling the challenges will reward players with promo cards from Promo Pack B Series Vol. 6.

Additionally, players can also participate in the Mega Kangaskhan Wonder Pick Event that features Wigglytuff and Gastly promo cards. The event runs from April 17 to April 27, 2026.

Best Cards to Pull

Mega Gengar ex

There are a lot of new good cards in the latest expansion. For example, the Mega Scizor ex and Revavroom. These two cards can combine into such a brute force that they can deal a lot of damage. They also have a great synergy with Paldean Wonders Orthworm and Fantastical Parade's Sightseer.

Again, Charizard is always known to be a strong card. In its Mega Charizard ex version, it solidifies the statement. The Mega Charizard ex is great for its damage and health pool. It has the cheapest attack cost of any Charizard ex cards, which is definitely something.

Notable Cards Overview

Mega Charizard x ex

Mega Charizard X EX

Just as iconic as it is, many fans have been waiting for such a long time for the arrival of Mega Charizard ex. However, the expectation might not seem to pay off because there is a huge drawback that may upset some fans. In order to be really something, Mega Charizard X ex needs to lose half of its HP. Since it has a large health pool, it might take several turns before Mega Charizard ex becomes a killing machine.

This high-risk high-reward mechanism may not seem to be satisfactory because it’s an ex card. The risk is way higher since you’ll lose two points if Mega Charizard X ex is defeated. Except if you’re highly lucky, the chance of losing is higher with this card.

However, Mega Charizard X ex is still far from the worst. What’s great about it is its low attack requirements. Instead of using a combination of energy, it only requires 3x energy. With this in mind, you can easily deal 100 damage. This is especially great if you’re fighting low-HP Pokémon, like Moltres ex or Magby.

While its offensive side is okay, Mega Charizard X ex still falls behind its cousin, the greater Mega Charizard Y ex. It is also worse than the Mega Blaziken ex, another Fire Pokémon. If you want alternative cards, make your top-up at Lootbar and pull better ones.

Mega Gengar EX

Gengar is always a good pick in Pokémon TCG Pocket since it can even lower your enemy’s morale. The reason is that it can deactivate the enemy’s support completely, rendering each support card ineffective as long as this card is around. However, that’s what most people know about it. Other than that, Gengar isn’t seen as meta thing that players are always using.

Thinking about the potential of the Gengar card, many fans have speculated that things might change with the Mega Gengar ex. Turns out, it’s somewhat true. The Mega Gengar ex is not a Psychic Pokémon any longer. This now dark Pokémon prevents all trainers from being used at all during the match.

While it may sound interesting, it’s not that good in reality. The problem is, Mega Gengar ex requires 4x Energies and Stage 2 evolution just to be functional. It may take a while for you to fulfill these requirements. By the time you get the card, your enemies might have used all their trainers.

Another thing to remember is that there are a lot of better dark Pokémon that require less energy and are also stronger. One example is Guzzlord ex. With 2x Energy, you can unleash more damage than Mega Gengar ex. This card is also switchable using Celesteela, which makes things easier and less risky. For those looking for dark Pokémon meta, we’d also like to recommend other Pokémon, like Mega Absol ex, Drakrai ex, and Nihilego.

Mega Slowbro EX

One card that wasn’t expected to be this good is Mega Slowbro ex. Compared to the two popular Pokémon cards above, Mega Slowbro ex takes the cake. With some compromise, it can easily deal 90 damage for 3x Water Energy. Now, you’ll have to flip a coin to deal damage. You’ll have to flip 3 coins. When it hits head, it deals 20 damage to the enemy’s benched Pokémon. If you hit 3 heads in a row, it will deal 60 damage to all benched Pokémon. So in total, Mega Slowbow ex can hit 270 damage, 90 damage for the active Pokémon, and 60 damage for each benched Pokémon.

Release Date

The latest Pokémon TCGP expansion, Mega Shine pack, was released on March 25, 2026. Now, players still have a chance to enjoy all the good content the game has to offer. Complete the missions and collect the special emblems that are present only during the event.

Conclusion

It’s always great to see another new expansion for Pokémon TCGP. With new expansions, that means more cards to collect. If you want to have the best of this expansion, better make a Pokémon TCG Pocket top up and collect your best cards.
