Mega Scizor EX Strategy Guide

Mega Scizor Ex

Before talking about the deck build, let’s see an overview of Mega Scizor EX. This card is a 4-diamond Metal Pokémon card that has 200 HP. It requires a basic Scyther Pokémon to evolve, which is an already strong card by itself. Since it’s an EX Pokémon, the rule of Mega Evolution EX applies. The rule implies that if a Mega Evolution EX Pokémon is Knocked Out, you’ll receive 3 points, basically winning the game.

Aside from its robust HP, what we love about Mega Scizor EX is its skill called Bullet Slugger. This ability can deal up to 150 damage in one turn, as long as the criteria are fulfilled. When moved from the bench spot to active, Bullet Slugger will deal an additional 50 damage. On top of its 100 damage, you’ll deal 150 damage, which will annihilate even EX Pokémon with a lower HP pool.

However, do note that this only applies when Mega Scizor EX is moved from the bench to active. This is the reason why this Pokémon works best with Support and Pokémon cards that can make the moving process simpler. So if you don’t have any, make your top-up at Lootbar and get some good cards for it. Building a deck for Mega Scizor EX is so simple, since all you’ll need is Scyther and a few support cards that can easily move Mega Scizor EX from the bench to the active spot. This is basically what you’ll spam with Mega Scizor EX, since its Bullet Slugger can consistently deal 150 damage. Even for beating such a durable Pokémon, like Mega Charizard X EX, you only need to do Bullet Slugger twice.

Combo with Revavroom

Many people would recommend a combo with Revavroom since both are metal Pokémon. But, another thing you may need to realize is that Revavroom has a special ability called Metal Transports, which can transport one metal Pokémon from active to the bench. Activating this ability over and over again can easily dish out and spam that 150 damage right off the bat. Most enemies will likely abandon this match, especially because of how consistent that is.

If you’re planning to main Mega Scizor EX deck this time around, better stock up on some metal Pokémon and support cards to minimize the cost of moving a card from the active spot to the bench. Additionally, we’d also like to recommend the Baby Pokémon card, which only requires one energy to retreat. So maybe you want to collect those too, like Mew, for example, which can also turn the tables in your favor with its offensive switching ability.

Do remember that Mega Scizor EX requires three energy for its Bullet Slugger. That’s why, aside from the supporting cards, you must establish a second attacker to deal additional damage while keeping some space to evolve and prepare Mega Scizor EX’s attack.

How to Beat Mega Scizor ex Decks

Scyther

If your enemy is using Mega Scizor EX, although it’s a really strong and consistent deck, it’s not always the end of the world. The key to beating the Pokémon Mega Scizor EX deck is to always annoy the enemy's retreating efforts. You can do this by attacking their second damage dealer and Scyther. When Mega Scizor EX is stocking up some energy, make your utmost effort to deal serious damage to it. Once beaten, you’re basically winning the game with 3 points for your table.

Another strategy is to use Pokémon that can deal damage to benched Pokémon, like Greninja. You may also use a Sabrina trainer card to force the enemy to retreat their Mega Scizor EX to prevent it from dealing additional damage.

Best Mega Scizor ex Deck Guide

Mew

The main focus of Mega Scizor EX is to evolve it and stock up some energy as soon as possible. Put the Scyther on the bench, and evolve it. Use other Pokémons, like Skarmony and Orthworm, to enable Mega Scizor EX to attack as quickly as it can. The best combination for Mega Scizor EX is Revavroom. Its skill is very useful to switch Mega Scizor EX’s position to spam its Bullet Slugger damage. Doing a consistent 150 damage is really unmatched, especially when it’s really consistent. If you want to have better damage, have some support and trainer cards to amp up its damage to 160. Doing it twice is just enough to annihilate any Mega Evolution Pokémon, even with their high HP pool.

Yes, Mega Scizor EX is a strong card that can consistently deal 150 damage, 160 even with enough support. Bullet Slugger is just an OP ability you can hope for from a Pokémon. Combine it with Revavroom or Baby Pokémon, Mega Scizor EX can be enabled as early as a few turns. However, Mega Scizor EX does need 3 energy to unleash Bullet Slugger, which can take some time if you’re doing it naturally. With support Pokémon, it’s possible to collect them all in two turns.

Additionally, Mega Scizor EX requires two energy to retreat, which is hefty enough. Also, do note that it’s a Mega Evolution Pokémon, which is basically an all-or-nothing effort to win the match. Watch out for its HP by preparing some potions.

Conclusion

Mega Scizor EX card is indeed a very worthy card to collect from Mega Shine expansion of the Pokémon TCG Pocket. It’s durable, able to deliver serious damage, and not that hard to evolve, especially with enough support cards. Many would consider an S-tier card of this expansion, which is saying something. So if you really want to get the best of the Mega Shine expansion, we highly recommend adding Mega Scizor EX to your collection. Make a Pokémon TCG Pocket top up and collect your best card!
