What Is The Blastoise Drop Event in Pokemon TCGP
Now, for those of you who have just started playing this game recently, we want to introduce what kind of event it actually is. Blastoise Drop Event is a special event featuring the Blastoise promo cards that players can obtain. However, they need to first beat the cards in order to obtain them, and this is not an easy task. These solo battles require players to optimize their deck to counter the Blastoise deck. Since this is the water deck, they have to use the counter-element in order to get a higher chance of winning, which is lightning. To participate in the solo battles against Blastoise decks, you will need to use Event Stamina. Do note that this is different from the regular Battle Stamina. If you win a game, an Event Stamina will be spent. But losing won’t consume it. So, you don’t have to worry about stamina if you just want to practice. The battles are divided into several tiers, like Beginner and Intermediate solo battles. The higher the tier, the harder it will be.
In events like this, you are bound to spend some stamina because of the rewarding drop cards. When the stamina is fully spent, players have to wait for it to replenish. Additionally, they can also use the Event Hourglasses to gain stamina quickly for another battle.
What Cards Can You Get from The Event
Back in January 2025, players who participated in this event might collect both the Blastoise ex card and Promo-A Vol. 3 cards as rewards. Players could get them starting from the beginner tier of the battle. To get guaranteed drops, you will have to work your way to the expert tier when the AI has much better cards. So, if you are planning to get all the cards, we highly recommend grinding on Expert battles.
When winning a battle, the player will receive a promo pack containing one of the Promo cards. The Promo cards are exclusive items, because so far, we haven’t seen any comebacks of them, especially the Blastoise promo card. Therefore, if the Blastoise Drop event card is released again in the future, be sure to grab all the cards, especially the Promos, because of how valuable they are.
Best Strategy for Winning The Event
If you are interested in collecting all the available cards in the Blastoise Drop Event, then you’ll have to prepare. When joining the solo battles, players will have to progress from the Beginner up to the Expert tier. The beginner could be easier, but the amount of rewards won’t be satisfactory. Therefore, players will usually grind on the Expert level. It is difficult, but highly rewarding. If you plan to walk your way to the Expert tier, then you will have to know how to counter Blastoise cards.
Since Blastoise cards are water elements, you need to pick strong Lightning cards. In this case, the one that’s highly recommended is Pikachu ex. This Pokemon card is really easy to set up, and the damage from its skills is great against water-type Pokemon. With two Pokemon ex cards, you can easily demolish this event. However, do note that Pikachu ex is a 4-diamond Pokemon, meaning that it might not be usable in missions with rarity limitations. If you require stronger cards, you can always get them through Lootbar.
Another alternative to Pikachu ex is a combo of Raichu and Lt.Surge Deck. As the higher tiers (Advanced and Expert) require players to use a deck with only cards below 4-diamond rarity, Pikachu ex is basically out of the option. For this, you can use Raichu. In the beginning phases, use the Lt. Surge support card to build the Energy for Raichu. This Pokemon requires three Lightning Energy to unleash its powerful ability, Thunderbolt. It will deal 140 Lightning Damage, and will be multiplied if it hits a Water-type Pokemon. However, upon releasing the skill, Raichu will lose all the Energy, so be wise with your Energy placement.
How Good Is The Blastoise Card
There is a reason why people love a Blastoise deck. It is powerful and consistent. You can easily build up water energy and use a support card to enable its ultimate skill. Blastoise’s skill, Hydro Pump, can easily deal up to 140 to 160 damage, if the enemy’s Pokemon has 2 energy attached. Plus, all the energy attached to Blastoise won’t disappear upon release, meaning that you can basically spam the skill to erase the enemy completely. The reason why it’s consistent is that the skill only requires 2 Water Energy and 1 Neutral Energy.
You can use support cards like Misty to easily obtain more Water Energy during the beginning phases. If you’re lucky, you can basically erase their Pokemon at the very first turn, which guarantees your win. Alternatively, using Manaphy is also a good strategy as it’s a good way to build up the required Energy for Blastoise without having to rely on a coin flip. But, its very low HP makes it tricky as it can be easily beaten by Pokemons like Carnivine or Skarmory.

The Blastoise Drop Event is indeed very exciting, especially for players who mainly build Water-type decks. The promo cards, like Volcarona, Eeve, Blastoise, Snivy, and Cinccino are also valuable to collect. However, taking the challenges requires you to make good preparation with a solid deck.
