How to Defeat Venusaur Decks?
Defeating Venusaur decks can be challenging, but with the right strategy, you can overcome them. Here are some common tips:
1. Use Fire-Type Decks
Venusaur is a Grass/Poison-type Pokémon, so Fire-type decks are particularly effective against Grass-type Pokémon. You can include powerful Fire-type Pokémon like Charizard or Infernape that can quickly take down Grass-types with their high damage output.
2. Counter Poison-Type Abilities
Venusaur’s Poison-type moves can poison your Pokémon, reducing their effectiveness over time. Consider including cards that can cure or protect against status effects, like Full Heal or Pokémon with healing abilities (e.g., Blissey, Charizard with Fire Recovery).
3. Increase Your Deck's Speed
Venusaur decks often focus on evolving Grass-type Pokémon for stronger attacks, so you’ll want to attack quickly and disrupt their setup. Use fast Pokémon or cards with high-speed moves (such as Quick Attack, Thunderbolt, or Agility) to apply pressure from the start.
4. Handle Venusaur's Healing Abilities
Venusaur decks may include healing cards like Leaf Regen or Energy Recycle. Use cards that can limit or prevent healing, such as Energy Disruption or moves that reduce your opponent’s defence or recovery abilities.
5. Use Flying-Type Pokémon
Flying-type Pokémon have an advantage over Grass-types and are often faster and more versatile. Consider adding Pokémon like Pidgeot, Rowlet, or Tropius
By employing these strategies, you can more effectively counter Venusaur decks and increase your chances of winning each battle! to your deck for extra mobility and strong attacks.
Among those strategies, the simplest and most powerful approach is to build a Fire-type deck. For this, we highly recommend the Charizard EX deck, which is not only effective in this event but also one of the best decks in the meta outside of it. With this deck, you will breeze through all the battles more easily and with no worry.

Charizard EX Deck Strategy
- Opening with Moltres EX: The deck starts with Moltres EX in the active position. Thanks to its Infernal Fan attack, you can attach Fire energies to your benched Pokémon. Use this ability to power up Charmander and prepare for the evolution into Charizard EX.
- Evolving into Charizard EX: Once Charmander evolves into Charizard EX and enough Fire energy has been accumulated, Charizard EX becomes the main powerhouse of the deck. Its Crimson Storm attack deals 200 damage, nearly knocking out any opposing Pokémon in a single hit.
- Game Control with Sabrina and Red Card: While preparing Charizard EX, use cards like Sabrina to disrupt your opponent's setup, and Red Card to limit their options. These cards slow down your opponent, giving you more time to develop your strategy.
- Using Switch to Swap Out: Once Charizard EX is ready, use Switch to take Moltres EX out of the active position and bring Charizard EX in, without wasting any time.
This strategy focuses on building momentum quickly, disrupting your opponent, and finishing strong with Charizard EX' s powerful attacks.
