S-Tier 

Ren Amamiya (Joker)

Ren Amamiya, better known as the Joker, holds the title of being the best DPS character in the game despite being a limited time 5-star banner. Joker’s attribute is Curse and fills the role of a Sweeper. His strength lies in his Area of effect cursed attacks and you will see the best of him, once his Awareness levels are unlocked. He is the character you would want to spend your p5x top up on.

Minami Miyashita (Mairan)

Minami Miyashita is a top-tier pick as a healer whose role is Medic and her attribute is Bless. Guess why she is in the top-tier? Right, because she heals - she heals a lot, removes all status effects from the allies, gives team buff and provides everything that a healer can.

Ann Takamaki (Panther) 

Ann Takamaki is a Sweeper just like the Joker with Fire as her attribute. She is undoubtedly a top-tier pick with abilities that rival and sometimes outpower the Joker. The best part about her skill sets aside from AoE and DOT offense is that she can also heal an ally with the lowest HP on the team.

Yaoling Li (Rin)

Yaoling Li, also known as Rin is the only Saboteur on the S-tier with the attribute - Curse. Rin excels when it comes to debuffing and lowering enemies’ defense. Rin is best used when paired alongside Joker with the same Curse attribute.

Leo Kamiyama (Leon)

Leo Kamiyama, also known as Leon is a top-tier strategist pick with the Nuclear Attribute. Leon is best paired with DPS units to boost the crit damage and ATK stats of your allies while also providing some shield and healing.

Miyu Sahara (Puppet)

Miyu Sahara who is also called the Puppet is a top-tier Elucidator and the only character in the S-tier with no attribute. She is a must in your team if you are going for a prolonged fight because she offers a ton of defense with shields and buffs.

Shun Kano (Soy)

Shun Kano or Soy plays the role of a Guardian and has an attribute of Ice. The reason why Shun is a S-tier pick is because of his endurance and control effects that even lets you beat characters above your current level.

A- Tier 

Yusuke Kitagawa (Fox)

With Ice as his attribute, Yusuke Kitagawa who is also called the Fox, is a A-tier DPS character who fills the role of a Sweeper. He is great for the team in case you need a sustain unit with a damage output.

Yui (Bui)

Yui or Bui, doesn’t matter what you might call her, is an A-tier Assassin with the Electric attribute. She becomes a deadly character to fight against if the enemies are shocked because that lets her use her skill kit more effectively. 

Morgana (Mona)

Morgana, who is also named Mona, is an A-tier Medic with the Wind attribute. Just like Minami, he is also a top-tier healer but the reason why he is in the A-tier is because he is just not good enough and can be replaced by some upcoming characters.

Ryuji Sakamoto (Skull)

Ryuji Sakamoto or Skull is a Physical attribute Assassin who is excellent for single-target DPS and deserves to be in the A-tier. But you might want to avoid him if you are looking for more survivability.

Lufel (Cattle)

Lufel is the second Medic in the A-tier with the attribute - Fire. Lufel is a great 4-star pick for a healer because of his buffs and burns. He even outperforms Morgana but as we said, they can be easily replaced with the upcoming 5-star medics.

Seiji Shiratori (Fleuret)

Seiji Shiratori is a 4-star DPS character with the attribute of Wind. He is a strong pick for the early and mid-stage of the game with his Wind stacks.

Kayo Tomiyama (Okyann)

Kayo Tomiyama or Okyann is one out of the two Elucidators with no attribute. She is great to increase your party's base stats and SP restoration.

B-Tier

Motoha Arai (Closer)

Mothoha Arai or Closer is a B-tier pick as a Sweeper with the Electric attribute. She is easy to use in the early-to-mid game but falls short in the late game.

Kotone Montagne (Mont)

Kotone Montagne or Mont is an Assassin with the attribute Ice. She is kind of an Okayish pick who provides decent DPS and freeze effects.

Haruna Nishimori (Riddle)

Haruna Nishimore or Riddle is a Strategist with Psychokinesis as his attribute. Riddle is a B-tier pick as his effectiveness fades away with a reliable healer on the team.

Tomoko Noge (Moko)

Tomoko Noge or Moko is a Strategist with the same Psychokinesis attribute as riddle. The thing about her is that she is replaceable with other buffers and debuffers.

C-tier 

There are three characters in the C-tier and they are not at all recommended if you desire a good time in Persona 5.

Yukimi Fujikawa (Yuki)

Yukimi or Yuki is a Guardian with the Bless attribute. Yuki is just too niche and way too useless in late game content.

Kiyoshi Kurotani (Key)

Kiyoshi Kurotani is a C-tier Saboteur with the Fire attribute. He is too squishy and his skills cost a lot of HP.

Toshiya Sumi (Sepia)

Toshiya Sumi or Sepia is a Curse attribute assassin who is way too outclassed by Joker and other picks.

In conclusion, the S and A tier characters are the one you should prioritise from the starting of the game. You can still go for the B-tier in some circumstances but not the C-tier.
