Mega Mawile ex: An Overview

mega mawile ex

Mega Mawile ex is one of the Mega Evolution Pokémon you can collect during the Fantastical Parade expansion. It’s a no-brainer deck to build since it is easy to make it functional on the field. Mega Mawile ex is a basic Pokémon, meaning that you don’t have to evolve it. Simply pick it from your hand, and Mega Mawile ex will activate right away. The thing about Mega Mawile ex deck is that you don’t necessarily need to have any other cards, as it can function in the best way as it is. If you haven’t got it, depend on Lootbar for the top-ups.

The reason for that is its skill called Heat-Up Crunch that can deal 60 damage + another 60 per turn as long as this card stays in the Active spot. With that in mind, without the interruption from the enemy, you can deal 120 damage in round 2, 180 in round 3, and much more in later rounds. The key here is to make sure that Mega Mawile ex stays as Active, which could be challenging as the enemy will always use support cards, like Sabrina, to force it away.

Another thing that’s great about the Heat-Up Crunch ability is that it only requires two energy to function. Naturally, you can unleash an attack in the second turn. But with support Pokémon or item cards, you could make it faster.

Mega Mawile ex is a basic Pokémon that has 170 HP. While it’s not that big a pool of health, you can make it more durable. Since it’s a Metal Pokémon, you can use item cards, like Metal Core Barrier, so that it can take -50 damage from your opponent. This card is a 4-diamond rarity card, which makes it quite rare. Since it’s a Mega Evolution Pokémon, the rule applies.

Meta Mawile ex Deck Options

Now it’s time to talk about the Pokémon TCG Pocket Mega Mawile ex decks. Ideally, most players would use Mega Mawile ex card with a lot of support items and trainers to make it stay on the spot. However, there’s also another alternative that will make use of Galarian Perrserker to recover any discarded tool cards. Let’s see which deck suits your playstyle the best.

Meta Mawile ex Deck

The ultimate Mega Mawile ex deck that a lot of players have been using. This deck mainly focuses on this card alone, along with the trainer cards to support it, whether to ensure its placement in the active sport or just for healing. This deck requires you to have 2x Meta Mawile ex cards, along with the usual support cards, like Professor's Research, Red Card, and Potion. You’ll also need Metal Core Barrier, two of them. Using this card, Mega Mawile ex can take 50 less damage from your opponent, which extends its survivability further.

About the trainer cards, there are a few of them we’d like to recommend, like Cyrus, Adaman, Pokémon Center Lady, Guzma, and Copycat. Cyrus is really useful here because you can forcefully switch your opponent’s benched Pokémon that has damage on it to the active spot. It’s kind of similar to Sabrina. Meanwhile, all the other trainers here are mainly focused on healing, like damage reduction from Adaman, or Pokémon Center Lady to heal some damage. Guzma here is functional for disrupting the enemy by removing all the tool cards attached to their Pokémon. Copycat is also great for drawing cards to your hand. If you still don’t have all these cards, Lootbar can help you with that.

Seeing how there are no supporting or secondary attacker Pokémon, you will solely rely on Mega Mawile ex alone. While it feels somewhat daunting, having no other Pokémon is useful here to prevent Mega Mawile ex from being sent to the bench. Therefore, it’s highly recommended to pack up some supporting items to make it survive longer.

Mega Mawile ex X Galarian Perrserker Deck

The alternative Mega Mawile ex deck is by using Galarian Perrserker. The reason why we use this Pokémon is that we’ll make use of its ability called Dig Up. What this ability does is to recover 2 random discarded tool cards each time you evolve it. That means you can always attach Metal Core Barrier to Mega Mawile ex as long as possible. In fact, you can run the whole battle with Metal Core Barrier attached, as long as you know the best timing to use the ability.

Since we’ll be relying a lot on Galarian Perrserker’s evolution, you’ll also need Galarian Meowth. Having two each will prolong the use of Metal Core Barrier for 5+ rounds. This deck also needs Metal Core Barrier along with other tools, like Pokeball. You can also use the same set of trainers as the above deck, which uses Cyrus, Copycat, and Pokémon Center Lady. To complete the set, you can add other trainers, like Irida and Sabrina, for survivability and disrupting the enemy.

The Best Way to Use Mega Mawile ex Deck

As mentioned before, Mega Mawile ex deck heavily relies on its offensive skill, the Heat-Up Crunch. The skill can cause such huge damage as long as Mega Mawile ex stays in the active spot. The way to do this is to make sure that you don’t have any other Pokémon in your hand. This will nullify trainers that have spot-switching abilities, like Cyrus or Sabrina. Instead of Pokémon, we highly recommend stocking up on supporting trainers that can reduce damage taken and heal. Having some Pokeball is also a must to make sure that you can put down Mega Mawile ex in the active spot as soon as possible.

If you plan to use the first deck, which is a highly recommended one, some items, like Metal Core Barrier are a must. Just make sure to apply it right before the enemy’s turn to unleash an attack. The 50 damage reduction is so good, knowing that Mega Mawile ex only has 170 HP, which isn’t that high for a Mega Evolution Pokémon.

How to Beat Mega Mawile ex Deck

oricorio

Now, there are two strategies to beat Mega Mawile ex deck. If your enemy has benched Pokémon, use Sabrina or Cyrus to force it back to the bench, preventing it from having damage stacks. This way, Mega Mawile can always be forced to deal only 60 damage.

However, most players chose the deck where they don’t use any other Pokémon. In this case, the better Pokémon against it is Pom-Pom Oricorio, which can negate any damage coming from an ex-Pokémon. Put it in the active spot, and Mega Mawile ex will always deal 0 damage to it. Use the opportunity to attack it using your secondary attacker to win the battle.

Conclusion

Mega Mawile ex deck is indeed one of the good decks you can have in Fantastical Parade. It can function as soon as possible, has low attack requirements, and is always consistent. You basically only depend on its offense alone, and you’ll win in no time. Although there’s a new expansion, the Mega Mawile ex deck is still functional to this day. If you’re planning to build it, we highly recommend doing a Pokémon TCG Pocket top up. With how great this card is, making top ups would be worthwhile.
