Basics
Survivors can open exit gates if they’re in good health or standing close enough to the gate. But watch out - hunters can shut those gates down, so you’ve got to stay sharp. Keep moving constantly to avoid becoming an easy target. Use the minimap to track the hunter’s location and stay one step ahead. Also, pay attention to props and abilities, especially their cooldown timers, and use them wisely depending on your character and the hunter you’re up against.
Teamwork makes the dream work
Like any great multiplayer game, communication is everything in Identity V. Your team needs to plan how to tackle the exit gates, share the hunter’s location, and guess their next move. Don’t clutter the six quick message slots with stuff like “Thanks!” or “Sorry!” - save them for important updates.
Pick the gate farthest from the hunter or take a route they’re less likely to check. Be ready to switch up your plan on the fly, using strategy, teamwork, and stealth to stay ahead. The teammate with the biggest decoding penalty should focus on rescuing since they’re slower at ciphers. If you don’t have Borrowed Time, tell your team upfront - they’ll waste time waiting for you to pop a cipher otherwise.

If you’ve got Borrowed Time, you can fail a calibration on purpose to reveal the hunter’s location, but heads-up: this also gives away your spot unless you have the “self-deception” trait. Stop being the prey and become the predator
Flip the script and make the hunter sweat. Lead them toward a decoder, especially an explorer, since they’re easier to pick off. Tiptoe to avoid leaving a trail - those tracks are invisible to you but a dead giveaway to the hunter, even if they fade over time. When you jump or vault over windows, the hunter receives an indicator in the form of the following symbol. It shows your direction while tiptoeing can prevent this.
Decoding a cipher takes about 75 seconds, though it depends on your character, and after 30% progress, the machine starts wiggling, tipping off the hunter. Be ready for an attack. Get to know each hunter’s weaknesses and how your character can exploit them to turn the tables.
Bonus tips
Ping the dungeon’s location to help injured teammates escape once the hunters off their tail. If the hunter’s eyes glow red, the exit gates on detention - big trouble. Memorize spawn points for survivors, hunters, and dungeons on each map to gain an edge.
If you’re decoding a risky cipher, drop a pallet to block the hunter and bolt to a better kiting spot. Good kiters can fail their first calibration on purpose to reveal the hunter’s position, giving teammates a head start. Use an emote tied to your character’s ability to trick the hunter into wasting theirs while keeping yours ready.
Don’t let the rescuer do all the heavy lifting - hunters love targeting them, so share the load. If the hunter downs a full-health teammate with a skill instead of a regular attack, pop the last cipher after they take the hit. Split up to open different exit gates - if everyone’s at one gate and the hunter teleports, it’s game over.
