Does Romancing Sciel Lock You Out of Romancing Lune?
Before players can start romancing Lune, they have to make a specific choice early in their playthrough. Romancing one character locks players out of the other one. Accepting any advances from Sciel will remove the option to romance Lune. This does force you to choose which character you like more. If you haven’t been able to play the game yet to determine your favorite, then LootBar can give you a hand.
Specifically, players must turn down Sciel’s offer at Relationship Level 4. When she asks if Verso is interested in an “adventure,” then players need to select the “Um, actually I’m a bit sleepy” option to keep the romantic path for Lune open. Accepting her advances at this stage or at a later level will prevent Lune’s romance event from triggering.
Unlike some other popular RPGs, such as the Persona series, you only have the option to romance one person in your playthrough. If you have already locked yourself out of romancing Lune, then you’ll either have to reload to a previous save spot before the decision was made, or you’ll have to try again in a new game.
How to start romancing Lune in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?
To start Lune’s romance, players have to reach Relationship Level 4 with her. It is achieved by interacting with her at camp while exploring The Continent and completing both side and main quests. The level 4 event becomes available after defeating Renoir at the Manor.
During this camp conversation, Lune will ask to observe Verso while he sleeps. To progress the relationship and unlock the Tree of Life Gradient Attack, players must select the “Well, it’s not like we have private rooms here. So, sure… knock yourself out” option.
Continue building her relationship until the player reaches Level 5. Lune will reveal she can play the guitar after defeating the second Axon. To continue towards the romance path, players should select the “Maybe we could play together sometime?” option.
The level 6 side quest
Reaching Relationship Level 5 opens an important side objective. To advance Lune to Level 6, players need to complete a task for her. By going to the eastern side of Sirene’s Island, they will find a location called Sirene’s Dress. The only way to access that area is through Esquie flight, which is unlocked automatically as players progress through the main story.
Inside, there’s a small puzzle. When players encounter a door, they must choose to play music to it, then go forward and defeat the Chromatic Glissando, a tougher version of the Glissando enemy. Find the Expedition 46 journal after the fight, which has a recording from Lune’s parents. The player needs to listen to it and then return to camp, triggering a cutscene that will raise their relationship with Lune to Level 6.
The final step
Once Lune’s relationship is Level 6, players can successfully romance her. The final event will be available right after the previous cutscene, where Lune will be writing in a notebook, confessing that she’s writing a song. She will ask Verso to stay up with her to help.
To finalize the romance questline and reach the maximum Relationship Level, players must accept her invitation by selecting the “Sure. I’d love to help you with ‘your song.’” option. Doing this will cause Verso and Lune to leave camp to spend time together. Completing this will also unlock the Sky Break Gradient Attack for Lune.
Does Romancing Lune Change Anything in the Main Story?
The romance option in this game is just side content and doesn’t impact the game’s ending or the core storyline. The player’s decision regarding Lune or Sciel doesn’t change character dynamics or any of the endings in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Players can’t romance both characters, so they should be careful when picking a partner. However, if Verso accepts any of Sciel’s advances, then the option to help Lune with her song won’t appear.
Conclusion
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 perfectly balances romance with the rest of the story. Nothing feels forced, and the game itself is a wonder that may not be recreated for a while. If you’re skeptical about playing a turn-based RPG, especially since there are so many awesome action ones, then we recommend you buy a Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Steam key and experience why the game was crowned Game of the Year.
