Who is the new Valorant Agent Miks?
Miks is the 30th agent to join Valorant’s roster of playable characters. He originates from Croatia and is a controller who utilizes sound-based abilities to do things like daze enemies or even heal allies. The highlight of his introduction video is how he healed Sage’s crystallization that originated from her using her powers too much.
Of course, Miks has a handful of agent gear rewards that those who play him consistently can earn. While they’re decent enough as freebie rewards, you’re better off buying better cosmetics from the in-game store through Valorant Points that you buy from platforms such as LootBar.
How to Best Use All of Miks’ Abilities in Valorant
Like with every other Valorant agent, Miks has four primary abilities that players can use. These abilities include his passive E, as well as three other abilities that he can either buy through credits or prepare with enough ult points. Knowing how to best use these abilities can help you bring this agent's true potential out.
Waveform
Waveform lets players spawn smokes at selected locations. The method of smoking is extremely similar to Brimstone or Clove, since you select the area through a map interface.
Unlike with agents such as Omen or even Viper, the smokes that Miks deploys appear instantly. While it's true that you can't make the smokes extremely specific, like with Omen, the instant nature of these smokes means that they're perfect for setting up pushes. You need to smoke an angle the enemy is holding just before your team starts pushing to ensure the enemy's too dazed to react.
Not to mention, the smokes drop vertically first. Because of this, one-way smokes can give you and your team a significant advantage, especially when done well. Covering the enemy's upper body with the smoke will let you shoot them, while stopping them from seeing anything other than the green smoke.
M-Pulse
The M-Pulse ability sets Miks apart from every other controller agent in the game. Set to the C key, this ability has two stages that you can toggle between before throwing it.
The first throws a device that releases a concussive pulse. Players caught in the blast are disrupted and dazed, making it tougher for them to react to enemies and abilities that can take them out. The best way to use this ability is to stop aggressive pushes when you're defending the site, or to stop the enemy from defusing the spike when you're attacking. Flushing out key hiding spots is also a good idea, though your throw has to be extremely accurate.
The second mode has the same device release healing waves. Teammates who are caught in the healing blasts have their health rejuvenated, making it handy when thrown in key areas where your teammates are already holding angles. You want to throw the device at enemies who are preparing to take on gunfights, so they have additional healing that gives them the advantage. You can also use the M-Pulse's healing to give your allies some much-needed healing after you've taken a site, but the flashy visuals can also give away locations.
Harmonize
Controller agents don’t really assist with getting frags, aside from the occasional blinding ability. However, the Harmonize ability that Miks possesses can be one of the strongest support abilities in the game. Used by pressing the Q key, this ability gives you and the targeted ally a combat stim, similar to the stim that Brimstone can set down.
While the stim’s effects are naturally temporary, getting a kill with the stim active refreshes it. This means that players who have the right aim and game sense can technically keep this stim going for as long as they want, making entries a breeze for aggressive duelists like Jett or Iso.
It's best to pair this specific ability with ultimates that make it easier to aggressively push sites, such as Vyse's or Waylay's ultimate. Give the stim to the person most likely to get kills to ensure they keep the magic going. You can also pair Harmonize with Reyna's ultimate to give an extra boost, or give it to Iso just before he uses his ultimate to trap someone in a 1v1.
Bassquake
Every Valorant agent has an ultimate ability that can instantly turn the tides of battle in their team’s favor, and Miks is no different. Bassquake can be activated once ready to build up and unleash a sonic wave forward in the direction you’re looking. Every player caught in the attack is debuffed, similar to Waylay’s ultimate. The difference is that three debuffs are applied at the same time.
The three debuffs that Bassquake applies to enemies include:
Knockback
Deafen
Slow
Of course, teammates caught in the attack are also affected by the debuffs. Because of this, you must prioritize positioning if you want to ensure it doesn’t act as a double-edged sword. The best way to use this ability is to flush out enemies who are hiding behind walls or other objects. Since the sound waves travel through physical objects, Bassquake is perfect for ensuring key spots on a site that you want to push are clear, making way for an easy plant.
What’s the Best Strategy to Play as Miks in Valorant?
While the most popular controller agents in Valorant, such as Omen and Clove, act well as solo players, that doesn’t apply to Miks. Most of this character’s kit revolves around being a support character, which is why it’s recommended to have at least one teammate by your side at all times.
Miks’ gameplay loop is fairly simple. Smoke out key angles that the enemies may hold or enter from, and use the healing properties of the M-Pulse to ensure your teammates have the health to take gunfights.
Entries are where Miks really shines. Using Harmonize on an aggressive agent and then using Bassquake to ensure that the enemy is dazed to make getting kills easier is an extremely deadly combination. Since Harmonize refreshes with every kill you or your affected ally gets, it wouldn’t be surprising if duo-pushing becomes the new meta in Valorant going forward.
As for defending, the concussion blasts that the M-Pulse ability throws out can come in clutch, especially when denying plants. While somewhat situational, Miks seems to be a reliable agent for those who don’t mind sharing the glory with their teammates, even if it means that they have to play it safe to ensure they don’t die too early.
Conclusion
A unique character design isn’t the only thing Miks has going for him. His support-based abilities are excellent, and he stands out as a supporting controller. Valorant’s constant updates ensure the game feels fresh for everyone, pushing them to buy Valorant top ups so that they have the best cosmetics to use when flexing on the enemy.
