If you’ve just finished Elden Ring and are considering starting New Game+, then stop. Your adventure hasn’t finished yet, as Elden Ring also has an expansion that unlocks access to a new map with all-new content. This may come as a surprise, but it’s true since the entrance to the Elden Ring DLC is well hidden and the game doesn’t tell you about its existence at all. Of course, such a massive expansion is locked behind a paywall, so if you want to experience the DLC yourself, then it’s certainly worth it. This guide gives players a complete walkthrough on how to gain access to the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Getting Ready for the Realm of Shadow
Before accessing the DLC, players must fulfill two prerequisites. Defeating Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. These are optional bosses for the main game, so there’s a chance you might not have encountered them. Once those two bosses are history, you can enter the realm of Shadow.
If you’ve yet to experience the base game, on LootBar, you can grab an Elden Ring Steam key right away.
First Stop: Taking Down Starscourge Radahn
First on the hit list is the massive, gravity-defying Starscourge Radahn. This formidable brute is holed up in the Wailing Dunes, an arena only accessible by crashing a gathering over at Redmane Castle in Caelid. We recommend being level 50-60 for this fight with a +5 somber weapon or a +12 standard weapon at least.
How to Get the Radahn Festival Started
Redmane Castle is locked down tight until the Radahn Festival triggers. Until the festival triggers, you can’t go to the Radahn fight. Getting this party started is pretty straightforward, and players have a few options. Resting at any Site of Grace in the Altus Plateau kickstarts the event which is the easy way. Alternatively, folks can tackle Ranni's questline, which involves chatting with Blaidd in Siofra River and eventually reporting back to him. Completing either of the two objectives will immediately trigger the Radahn festival at Redmane Castle in the southeast part of Caelid. At the site of grace near the bridge leading to Redmane Castle, there will be a teleporter. Take it. It will immediately teleport you inside the Castle without having to fight any enemies. Once you're inside, simply chat with Jerren at the plaza to head down the elevator to the dunes. In front of you will be another tekeporter that leads directly to the Radahn fight.
Simple Tips to Beat the Big Guy
Radahn is an absolute powerhouse. He hits like a truck but has relatively low HP. He is weak when it comes to Scarlet Rot. Flinging some rot pots while galloping on Torrent is a solid strategy to melt his health bar safely from range. The festival gimmick allows players to endlessly summon a squad of NPCs, so keep mashing those summon signs even if your helpers bite the dust. When Radahn's health drops to half, keep an eye on the sky. He will launch himself into the stratosphere and crash down as a flaming meteor, transitioning into phase 2 with a new set of ranged gravity attacks.
Next Up: Finding Your Way to Mohgwyn Palace
With Radahn out of the picture, it is time to track down Mohg to continue your path to the Elden Ring DLC. The Lord of Blood is hiding deep underground in Mohgwyn Palace, which is completely disconnected from the rest of the map. Mohgwyn Palace is considered an end-game area, so we advise being at least level 80-90 for this fight with a +8 somber weapon or a +20 standard weapon.
The Quick Route Using White Mask Varre
The fastest ticket to the palace involves running errands for White Mask Varré. This questline is a bit shady, but it allows you to get to Mohg without even having to go through Lyndell. Speak with Varré at The First Step, then meet him at the Rose Church in Liurnia after getting a Great Rune. He will hand over Festering Bloody Fingers, which you must use to invade three players or defeat the NPC Magnus the Beast Claw in Altus Plateau. Afterward, soak the provided cloth in a deceased maiden's blood at the Church of Inhibition in Liurnia near the grand life of Dectus. Return to Varré for the final anointment to get the Pureblood Knight's Medal. Using this item teleports you straight to the palace steps.
The Scenic Route Through the Consecrated Snowfield
For those who skipped Varré's sketchy tasks, a hidden waygate provides a backdoor. This requires nabbing both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion and hoisting it at the Grand Lift of Rold to access the Consecrated Snowfield. You can find the first half of the medallion after beating Commander Niall at Castle Sol in the Mountaintops of the Giants. The other half can be found in the Village of the Alibinaurics in Liurnia, where an old Albinauric man, hiding in a vase, is holding it.
After reaching the Consecrated Snowfield, Head northwest past the Yelough Anix Ruins toward the cliff edge. A Sanguine Noble will jump out for an ambush. Clobber him and walk forward towards the cliff edge to activate the bloodied teleporter sitting nearby, then step through to arrive at the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum.
The Final Test: Defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood
Once you’re at Mohgwyn Palace, the path to Mohg is fairly linear. Mohg is not a pushover. He deals massive physical damage and utilizes a tricky blood magic mechanic that trips up many seasoned adventurers.
Grab the Shackle and Crystal Tear First
While you can beat this boss with just your weapon in hand, getting a few extra handy utility items can help make this fight a lot easier. First, snag Mohg's Shackle from the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, located right past two incredibly ornery Giant Crayfish at the bottom of the sewers. This item temporarily pins Mohg to the floor during the first phase of the fight, giving you a chance to take a couple of free hits in. Next, acquire the Purifying Crystal Tear. Defeat Eleonora at the Second Church of Marika in Altus Plateau to claim it. Mixing this tear into your flask completely negates the catastrophic damage from Mohg's unavoidable "Nihil" curse.
How to Survive the Rough Second Phase
When Mohg reaches 50% Hp, he casts the Nihil curse, which takes away a flat 40% of your HP with each tick up to 3 times. Using the Purifying Crystal Tear we discussed earlier negates this damage. After chanting "Nihil," Mohg sprouts wings and coats his trident in Bloodflame. This fiery sludge builds up the Blood Loss status effect rapidly if stepped on. The trick is to stay close. Rolling backward is a death sentence; instead, dodge forward to stay right behind him, where the arena is clear of fire. Remember, the Shackle is completely useless in this second phase, so do not bother spamming it. Keep the pressure up to melt his health, and eventually, he will fall.
Finally Accessing the DLC
Once the dust settles, the path to the DLC is clear. Resting at the site of grace where you beat Mohg prompts Leda to appear. Talk to her and exhaust her dialogue. After that, touch the Coccoon right next to the grace. Interacting with it teleports you into the realm of Shadow, where you can explore a whole new world from the very beginning.
