The revenge system from Clash of Clans has always had its fair share of issues. From the other player having a shield or guard up, to them having used up all of their loot after attacking you, to make it so there’s no point in attacking them, it was clear that the revenge system needed work. There’s now a new and improved revenge system that eliminates most issues players previously had.

How is the revenge system different in Clash of Clans?
For years, the revenge system was borderline useless for one big reason. Every time a player would attempt to take revenge on another player who had attacked them, the other player would have a shield or guard up, making it impossible to attack them. The few times the button actually worked, the base wouldn’t have enough loot to actually make the attack worth it, ultimately stopping most players from even interacting with the mechanic. Of course, LootBar’s service still always comes in clutch for getting extra resources.
Now, the new system will be changing a handful of things. The first and likely most important thing is that you can revenge any base as long as the opposing player took more than 30% of your available loot. This will give you a magic shield that we’ll elaborate on later, but also make the opposing player’s base vulnerable to getting revenged. You’ll only have 12 hours to take your revenge, or the button will get greyed out. While this has some fans divided, it does create a sense of urgency.
If the opposing player has a shield in place, then you’ll attack a “shadow” version of their base, thanks to which the other player won’t lose any loot, but you’ll gain everything. This change eliminated the first reason the original revenge mechanic didn’t work well.
The second change is that the enemy will always have at least the amount of loot they took from your base available to take back. For example, if a player takes 4,000 Dark Elixir from your base, you’ll have the chance to loot back that 4,000 Dark Elixir, plus the loot that base would have had if you came across it in any regular multiplayer battle. This eliminates the second major issue the original revenge button had. If this wasn’t enough, the stars that you get in a revenge battle will also count towards your star bonus for the day.
When can you not take revenge in Clash of Clans?
In addition to the 12-hour limitation, players can’t get revenge if the replay is no longer available. This means that major updates and patches may take away the ability to take revenge on players who attacked you before the version update.
Also, if you tap the revenge button and then hit end battle before sending a single troop out, then you won’t be able to take revenge again. It’s recommended to take extra caution when scrolling through recent defenses, or you may accidentally tap the revenge button. Finally, you can’t take revenge on a player who took revenge on you. That would create a never-ending loop of revenge attacks, and Supercell clearly doesn’t want that.
What is the new shield system in Clash of Clans?
The village guard and regular shield have been replaced by the Magic Shield in Clash of Clans. Now, the shield that is given for three specific reasons can be attacked without the player losing the shield or a percentage of it. While other players can still come across your base if you have a Magic Shield up, that version won’t be the actual one. Instead, it’ll be a shadow version that won’t affect you at all, ensuring that you don’t lose any loot if you have a Magic Shield.
Below are the three ways you can get a Magic Shield in Clash of Clans:
Someone attacked your base when you didn’t have a shield and took at least 30% of your total loot. These players will also be viable to take revenge on, as we mentioned above.
You purchase the shield using gems from the in-game store.
You were away from the game for at least 35 days and were given a Magic Shield so that you could properly get back into the game.
Of course, this new shield system only applies to the battle mode, since players don’t need a shield in the ranked mode. The best thing about this change is that it makes it so that every player will likely find good bases quicker when attempting to raid. This is because you can also come across the shadow version of bases that have active Magic Shields.
Conclusion
This concludes everything that Supercell changed in the Clash of Clans revenge system. This revamped revenge system is sure to motivate players to attack more bases, while also keeping things more engaging. There’s nothing more embarrassing than losing a revenge battle, which is why it may be a good idea to buy a Clash of Clans top up or two to strengthen your army and make sure you don’t lose.
