Introduction to Pure Fiction

Pure Fiction is a challenging endgame mode in Honkai: Star Rail, where you must defeat two encounters consisting of three waves of enemies, with 4 stages of difficulty available. The main enemy of Waves 2 and 3 will be a boss with a large HP pool that is reduced by defeating the surrounding enemies. The objective is to earn 60,000 points across both encounters, with points given based on how much damage is dealt.

You are given 4 cycles to complete each encounter, and two unique teams are needed to start the challenge. By defeating enemies, a special gauge called "Grit" fills up to 100. Once it has reached 100, "Surging Grit" activates, which has a unique effect in every version of Pure Fiction. Because there are always 5 enemies on-field, characters that can perform high AoE damage, such as Erudition units, are powerful in Pure Fiction.

Grit Mechanics for Version 3.8

In Version 3.8 of Pure Fiction, these are the Grit mechanics to bear in mind when teambuilding:

Grit MechanicDescription
Skill AttackAfter allies use Skill to attack enemy targets, every enemy target hit additionally accumulates 5 Grit Value for allies.
Concordant Truce

At the start of battle, after an ally uses their Skill to attack an enemy target, deals a set amount of DMG to all attacked enemy targets.

Surging Grit

Upon entering Surging Grit, advances all allies actions by 100% and increases DMG received by enemy targets during this period by 50%. Additionally, after an ally uses their Skill to attack an enemy target, deals an additional set amount of DMG to all attacked enemy targets and adjacent targets.

The Version 3.8 Grit mechanics favour characters that rely on their Skills to deal damage, as it will fill the Grit gauge quickly and enhance the damage of the Skill. A lot of characters rely on Skills to deal the majority of their damage, meaning a wide variety of line-ups are strong in this version.

  • Available Buffs

For both encounters in Pure Fiction, you have the choice of the following three buffs to assist you:

BuffDescription
Solo Symphony During "Surging Grit," after an ally uses a Skill to attack enemy targets, they deal additional True DMG equal to 30% of the original damage to each enemy target hit.
 Ravings

Upon entering "Surging Grit," Breaks all enemy targets' Weakness and recovers 4 Skill Point(s). During "Surging Grit," Break DMG dealt to enemy targets increases by 50%.

After allies attack enemy targets, every enemy target that becomes Weakness Broken additionally accumulates 5 Grit Value for allies.

Ballad

During "Surging Grit," memosprite's DMG increases by 30%, and when memosprite disappears, memomaster's action advances by 15%.

After memosprites' attacks, every enemy target hit additionally accumulates 3 Grit Value for allies.

Solo Symphony further enhances lineups that rely on Skill damage by adding 30% True DMG to all enemies hit. Ravings is a buff for Superbreak teams, which are very Skill Point intensive and allows for Grit accumulation by inflicting Weakness Break. Ballad is a powerful buff for Remembrance teams, adding 30% DMG and Grit Value to memosprites attacks and Action Advance for the memomaster.

Because of the Pure Fiction buffs and Grit Mechanics greatly favouring Skill DMG, the reccomended teams focus on this. Phainon historically can struggle in AoE scenarios, but this version of Pure Fiction benefits him greatly, and at higher investments, can easily clear the stage.

With the Ravings buff and the inclusion of The Dahila, the Firefly team can do very well in this version. While in other content you can use a sustainless Super Break team, in Pure Fiction, it is recommended to use Lingsha thanks to her Break synergies and AoE damage.

Anaxa relies heavily on his skill damage and can make use of Cyrene and Hyacine for more AoE damage, and is a strong choice.

The majority of Mydei's damage comes from his enhanced Godslayer skill, which Cyrene can trigger frequently, and he makes great use of Tribbie and Hyacine who are top-tier in Pure Fiction.

Because her damage comes mostly from her Enhanced Skill, The Herta benefits greatly from the Pure Fiction buffs while already being one of the best lineups for this mode generally, making her the top pick for this encounter. Because of the Ballad buff, the Remembrance teams will also perform very well with either Castorice or Evernight as your Main DPS.

If you have an alternative team for the first encounter, Anaxa works just as well on this stage. If you want to use Hyacine in another team, Anaxa can also use Dan Heng • Permansor Terrae.
