The Heartopia Research Lab is a special building in town that lets you research and unlock interactive items you can’t get anywhere else in the game. These include bouncy trampolines, slippery rugs, fun dice games, and even full rideable roller coasters that you can build right on your own home plot.
In this article, you'll learn the exact Research Lab location in Heartopia, the simple steps to unlock it, the full list of research items with what they do, and my personal tips to avoid wasting time or Wishing Stars. And you can always speed up your progression by getting Heartopia resources through Lootbar, a well-known top-up platform.

Heartopia Research Lab Location
The Research Lab is located in the center of town, so it is impossible not to see it when it finally opens. Walk over to Central Square and find the whale fountain. This building is located across the pet shop and adjacent to Dorothy’s Clothing store. Over the door, there is a brightly colored sign with rainbows and stars that makes it different from anything else.
I walk by it every single day now. Inside, the place feels clean and simple. Three main stations line the room, and the colorful Heartopia style makes it easy to use right away.
How to Unlock the Research Lab in Heartopia
Unlocking the lab is tied to your progress. You need to reach DG Member Level 27. The moment you hit that level, the game sends you a notification that something new has unlocked. Mayor Atara calls you immediately to explain the Research Lab and what it does.
You also get extra warehouse space, hobby upgrade tickets, and some new furniture recipes as a bonus. Once you’re level 27, the lab stays open forever. No extra quests or waiting. I rushed to level 27 after seeing my friends post pictures of their roller coasters, and I’m glad I did.
Inside the Heartopia Research Lab: How Everything Works
Three main parts run the whole system, and learning them early saves a lot of time.
- Central Console – This is the big control station in the middle. Its level decides which items you can research and how many devices you can use at once. Level 1 only lets you run one project. Upgrading to Level 2 needs 400 Research Energy, and higher levels open more slots and better items.
- Research Devices – These are the machines along the wall. You start projects here. Each device can be upgraded up to five times to make research faster. As your Central Console levels up, you unlock extra device slots so you can research several things at the same time.
- Research Store – This kiosk sits on the right side of the room. Every time you finish researching something, the item appears here so you can buy it with Wishing Stars. The store refreshes every Saturday at 6:00 PM with new stock and fresh discounts. It also has weekly purchase limits.
To start researching, you pick an item at a Research Device, spend some gold, and wait real-world time. Some projects take eight hours, others up to two full days. When the timer ends you get Research Energy instantly, which you use to upgrade the Central Console. You can’t cancel research, so pick carefully. Early items only cost gold.
Complete List of All Research Items in Heartopia
Here’s every item you can research right now. The list grows as you level up the Central Console. I’ve grouped them the same way the game does.
Miscellaneous Items
- RPS Dice
- Six-Sided Die

- Cash Register
- Movable Wooden Box
Roller Coaster Parts (you must research each piece separately to build rideable coasters on your home plot)
- Roller Coaster Car

- Building Permit for Big Loop Roller Coaster Pieces
- Building Permit for Banana Loop Roller Coaster Pieces

Heartopia Research Lab Tips I Wish I Knew Sooner
I made a couple of mistakes at the start, like researching random stuff and running out of Wishing Stars too fast. These tips helped me a lot:
- Start researching the second you unlock the lab. Timers run even when you’re offline, so get something going immediately.
- Focus on short projects first to earn Research Energy quickly and level up the Central Console. More levels mean more slots and better items.
- Upgrade your Research Devices as soon as you can. Even one or two levels cuts waiting time a lot.
- Check the Research Store every Saturday right after 6:00 PM for discounts and new stock.
- Save your Wishing Stars for the big items like roller coaster parts. The weekly limits mean you can’t buy everything at once.
- Place the Cash Register in a busy spot on your plot — visitors drop coins and it pays for itself over time.
- Only research things you’ll actually use. Trampolines are great for fun rooms, and the roller coaster pieces turn your home into a mini amusement park.
- Keep an eye on your gold early on. The first projects are cheap, but longer ones add up.
Following these kept my progress steady without burning resources.
Wrapping Up Your Heartopia Research Lab Journey
The Research Lab turned Heartopia from a cute town game into something I log in for every day. Once I unlocked it at level 27 and started working through the items, my home plot went from basic to a place where friends actually come to hang out and ride coasters. It takes patience because timers run in real time, but the payoff is huge. If you just hit DG Member Level 27, head straight to Central Square and get started.
