Elden Ring Nightreign initially had 8 base characters, but Scholar and Undertaker were added in The Forsaken Hollow. This increased the total number of playable characters and also gave players more choice in their gameplay because of the new abilities of Scholar and Undertaker. The question that arises is whether the new additions are better than the existing characters, and which are more powerful than others. Here’s a tier list of all the Elden Ring Nightreign characters that you can use to decide which character you want to use.

How the tier list works
Elden Ring Nightreign is similar to other games with multiple playable characters in that some are more powerful than others. S tier is the top tier that any character can be, and it requires the character to be meta-breaking or have massively powerful abilities. As the list progresses, the characters get weaker or less powerful.
Out of the 10 Elden Ring Nightreign characters, only 2 make the cut and are included in the S-tier section. The remaining 8 characters are divided into a, b, and c tiers, with no characters being added to the d tier, as none are as weak as that tier would require. If you want to find out which character gels with your playing style the best, you can use LootBar get the game.
All Elden Ring Nightreign Characters Tier List
Here is the tier list of the characters in Elden Ring Nightreign:
Tier | Characters |
S tier | Ironeye, Undertaker |
A tier | Executor, Scholar |
B tier | Duchess, Guardian, Wylder |
C tier | Raider, Revenant |
S-Tier Characters
S-Tier characters are the most powerful and should be picked by anyone looking to have a blast without too much effort.
Ironeye
Ability: Eagle Eye
Character Skill: Marking
Ultimate: Single Shot
Unlock requirement: Unlocked for free from the start
Ironeye is the only meta-breaking character in Elden Ring Nightreign, whose passive Eagle Eye can be used to increase item drops. The character’s ultimate, Single Shot, is even better as it allows him to demolish enemies with a ranged attack that ignores all defenses. His character skill Marking allows him to create a weak point of enemies and attack, staggering them. These elements combined give Ironeye an edge over all other characters.
Undertaker
Ability: Confluence
Character Skill: Trance
Ultimate: Loathsome Hex
Unlock requirement: Have The Forsaken Hollow, talk to Undertaker
Undertaker is a relatively newer character compared to others in the game, but she can deal more damage than most other Nightfarers. The character’s passive Confluence allows her to use her ultimate if an ally uses theirs. Her Trance skill boosts her attack damage, while her ultimate Loathsome Hex deals substantial AoE damage. This combination of strength, mobility, and defense makes her an obvious S-tier character.
A-Tier Characters
A-Tier contains characters that are strong but not overtly powerful, missing the cut for S-Tier for lack of meta-breaking abilities.
Executor
Ability: Tenacity
Character Skill: Cursed Blade
Ultimate: Aspects of the Crucible: Beast
Unlock requirement: Unlocked for free from the start
Executor is A-tier because of the character’s amazing balance in both offense and defense abilities. His passive Tenacity boosts attack and stamina while recovering from status effects, while Executor’s skill Cursed Blade draws a cursed sword that can deflect any attacks. The character’s ultimate, Aspects of the Crucible: Beast, allows him to transform into the primordial beast. These abilities make Executor a significantly strong character, but he fails to reach the heights of S-tier Nighfarers.
Scholar
Ability: Bagcraft
Character Skill: Analyse
Ultimate: Communion
Unlock requirement: Have The Forsaken Hollow, talk to Scholar
Scholar is a support and strategic character, with the Analyse skill that applies debuffs to enemies and buffs to allies. His ultimate Communion binds enemies, allowing Scholar to attack all of them at once. The character’s passive Bagcraft allows him to store additional consumable resources. While Scholar has substantial abilities that help him make the cut for A-tier, he doesn’t have anything groundbreaking that makes him reach S-tier.
B-Tier Characters
B-Tier characters are average, and while some of their abilities are decent, they will face difficulties against stronger enemies.
Duchess
Ability: Magnificent Poise
Character Skill: Restage
Ultimate: Finale
Unlock requirement: Give the Old Pocketwatch from the Tricephalos expedition to the Priestess
Duchess has impressive abilities, such as her skill Restage, which replays recent actions to boost damage. Her ultimate, Finale, offers her temporary invisibility, but these abilities are time-restrained. The character's passive Magnificent Poise boosts her dodge and attack, which can be useful but depends on the situation. Despite her powerful abilities, Duchess is a B-tier character because her powers require proper and timely implementation, limiting their benefits.
Guardian
Ability: Steel Guard
Character Skill: Whirlwind
Ultimate: Wings of Salvation
Unlock requirement: Unlocked for free from the start
Guardian is a defensive character, as its name suggests, and this is a large factor in the Nightfarer being only B-tier. His passive Steel Guard enters into a defensive stand while using a shield, while his skill Whirlwind can use wind to push away enemies. The character’s ultimate Wings of Salvation allows him to fly and then divebomb attack enemies. Despite these elements, the character lacks any offensive abilities, which hinders his effectiveness.
Recluse
Ability: Elemental Defense
Character Skill: Magic Cocktail
Ultimate: Song of the Blood Soul
Unlock requirement: Unlocked for free from the start
Recluse is a mage class, focused on ranged attack with a lack of defensive abilities. The Elemental Defense collects affinity residues to replenish FP. She can also replenish FP by making Magic Cocktails by collecting affinity residues dealt to enemies and allies. Recluse’s ultimate applies blood sigils to enemies, replenishing FP and HP for her and allies. Despite the ability to siphon mana to attack enemies, Recluse lacks any substantial abilities, preventing her from reaching any of the top tiers.
Wylder
Ability: Sixth Sense
Character Skill: Claw Shot
Ultimate: Onslaught Stake
Unlock requirement: Unlocked for free from the start
Wylder has an interesting passive, Sixth Sense, that can save players from their demise, but the Nightfarer still only manages to be B-tier. His skill, Claw Shot, allows him to reposition enemies by pulling them closer using a grappling hook. The character’s ultimate, Onslaught Stake, deals AoE damage. Wylder has some useful abilities, but nothing super powerful like A-tier or groundbreaking like S-tier.
C-Tier Characters
C-Tier characters are those that players can use, but they won’t offer substantially ground-breaking abilities, and they’ll need to put in more effort against harder bosses.
Raider
Ability: Fighter’s Resolve
Character Skill: Retaliate
Ultimate: Totem Stela
Unlock requirement: Unlocked for free from the start
Raider’s abilities focus more on defense, with his Fighter’s Resolve ensuring the character can’t be knocked down. His skill Retaliate reduces damage with the character taking a defensive stance before being attacked. Totem Stela summons a giant tombstone, but these abilities explain why the character couldn’t surpass C-tier.
Revenant
Ability: Necromancy
Character Skill: Summon Spirit
Ultimate: Immortal March
Unlock requirement: Unlock Duchess, purchase Besmirched Frame, and defeat the Revenant boss
Revenant is a summoner class, which is why his abilities are focused on summoning spirits or reviving defeated enemies as allies. His ultimate Immortal March can turn teams immortal and revive near-death allies. While these abilities may seem useful, they pale in comparison to the other characters, leaving Revenant a C-tier Nightfarer. You can purchase an Elden Ring Nightreign Steam key, if you haven’t already, to see if you can take on all the bosses using Revenant.
Conclusion
Each Elden Ring Nightreign character has unique abilities that may prove to be useful in fights, but some limitations may prevent them from reaching their full potential. S-tier characters may be the only ones that stand out from others, with Ironeye arguably being the best Nightfarers in the game. Undertaker is a newer character, and some may be surprised that she's S-tier, but her abilities make her potential endless. Once you decide on which character to use, you can find the best way to make their kit powerful using LootBar.
