EA College Football 26 Hopes To Improve Upon A Beloved Series

EA Sports resumed the fan-favorite video game series College Football after an 11-year break in 2024. The release of College Football 25 ultimately proved to be a resounding success, and the developers hope to make this success a yearly tradition, much like the Madden franchise has already established. That’s why on July 10th, 2025, we can get our hands on College Football 26. If you’re too excited to wait, don’t worry, you can get it a little earlier by purchasing the Deluxe edition and start playing by July 7th.

Before that, though, if you are still playing CFB25 or want to get a head start on CFB26, head on over to LootBar! LootBar can hook you up with some much-needed coins to give you an advantage.

What Will College Football 26 Do Differently?

With the game now just a few weeks away from release, EA Sports has been showcasing a glimpse of what their new game has to offer. We’ve already been shown that College Football 26 will feature over 2,800 new plays for players to choose from, alongside 45 additional formations compared to College Football 25. Furthermore, they are including 10 more archetypes alongside rebalance abilities. Of course, these aren’t nearly the only features. We’re getting to the big stuff soon.

►Field Vision Is Coming To Change The Game

Probably the largest new feature that’s coming is something called Field Vision.

Field Vision is a new mechanic that takes into account your quarterback’s height and proximity to their offensive linemen. Why will it do those things? Well, that’s because a shorter quarterback who plays close to their linemen will see less of the field, much like how they would in real life. It also will make it challenging to squeeze throws between much taller offensive and defensive linemen in front of you. There is no doubt in my mind that pocket passing will be getting significantly harder. However, it will become increasingly realistic, which is always the primary goal of these games (even if they occasionally fall short of that mark).

So, let’s say that you have a shorter quarterback and suffer from a tall offensive line in front of you, what happens?

Your receiving icons will begin to fade down the field to reflect best the vision that you have in the pocket, but you can still attempt to make that special throw you’re looking for. The problem is that you will likely suffer some form of accuracy penalty for trying it. If I had to guess, I would imagine that the quarterback's ratings will come into play as a factor in determining how significant or minor those accuracy penalties are.

►College Football 26 Gives Defense A Completely New Look And Feel

Everything that EA has shared regarding CFB26 has shown that they were committed to improving the defensive side of the game this year.

One key feature that is coming is called Concept Tracking. In a nutshell, the CPU will be able to pick up on concepts that you might be relying on for your offence to succeed. If you continue to run Flood or Mesh concepts, the CPU will correct their defense and start running counters specifically to what you’re running. EA has consistently mentioned that they want to improve the overall intelligence of the AI in the game, especially on the defensive end.

With increased intelligence comes increased realism. The developers discussed modifying how defensive players respond to certain passes, specifically mentioning over-the-shoulder interceptions when they aren’t even facing the quarterback. Let’s face it, most of us who have played College Football 25 (or any Madden for that matter) know precisely what it feels like to get picked off when they aren’t looking at you. In CFB26, that won’t happen anymore. These defensive players will experience slow reaction times when facing the wrong way and instead try to play the receiver's hands, rather than making blind interceptions. In all honesty, this might be the best change from a gameplay perspective.

The Little Things Are Getting Attention

As a player, there are a ton of little things that you might not take note of when playing a game. When it comes to CFB26, numerous small features are being improved or added, which will subtly change the feel without you even noticing. For example, the quarterback’s arm shouldn’t twist unnaturally when getting sacked; it should look like how a real quarterback would react during a game instead. Sticking with that same topic, if you hit a quarterback before they release the ball, they won’t just get bailed out with an incompletion.

The new system will direct those last-second throws to receivers, increasing both catch and interception opportunities on these plays. To top it all off, if you try to release the ball too late, you can just be sacked entirely, which is supposedly going to be far more frequent this time around.

Another little feature that’s coming to CFB26 is stunts and twists on the defensive side of the ball. These are smaller defensive play calls that can spice up how you attack an offence, further disrupting protection schemes and overall confusing the opposing offensive line. We see it often in real life, so it’ll be fun to test these out in the game.

College Football 26 Is Another Step In The Right Direction

With so little time left before CFB26 releases, the excitement is building rapidly. If you’re like me, you’ve probably been playing a good bit of CFB25 to quench some of that hunger in the meantime. It’s why LootBar has been so helpful to me, because there’s nothing I would rather do in my free time than dominate the gridiron one final time in CFB25. You can purchase CFB 26 coins specifically if that’s what you’re into, or wait until 26 releases and try to get yourself a head start.
