College Football 26 Brings Us A New Trophy Room
The Trophy Room is a brand-new addition to Dynasty, and I must say that it’s an excellent improvement. This is, essentially, a place to store your in-game trophies and awards that you’ve earned throughout a dynasty run. For example, in my dynasty, I created a custom head coach, and every single rivalry game I win, every single player that gets an award on my team, and every single bowl game I come out victorious in are all added to my Trophy Room. Over time, if you continue to play in a dynasty, you will accumulate more awards and trophies, allowing you to look back on your accomplishments later on. It isn’t a crazy, game-breaking feature, but for those like me who love small things like this, it makes a heavy difference.
The Transfer Portal Got An Overhaul
The developers wanted CFB 26 to have a transfer portal that best mimicked reality, with how some schools can barely lose talent in the offseason, and how others can see half their team vanish in an instant. The portal is designed to be unpredictable, and to achieve this, CFB 26 features around 2,000 players in the portal on a routine basis.
On top of that, star rating has been impacted, with it no longer being dependent on a player's overall at the time and instead based on their position and class year. A good example would be if I had an 88 overall freshman quarterback and an 88 overall senior right tackle. The quarterback would see a higher rating than the tackle in this scenario. For myself, the portal already held a ton of importance, and now it’s crucial for competing in a National Championship.
Furthermore, your players in Dynasty could completely change their expectations on you. Perhaps you have a player with a deal-breaker in terms of playing time, and you have an A+ in that department. Well, rather quickly, that player can change their dealbreaker and leave you scrambling to replace them. I used the playing time dealbreaker as an example because it also received an improvement. The developers mentioned that this dealbreaker was tweaked to help simulate a more realistic experience, such as veteran players fearing that their job might be lost to an incoming freshman.
College Football 26 Ranks Schools A Bit Differently
This is another one of those minor additions that is surprisingly impactful, but each school has its ratings slightly tweaked. No, the star rating system isn’t changing either. When you’re in Dynasty, you have a section titled “My School” which displays all the dealbreaker categories and your rating for each. All of these have been rebalanced in CFB 26, with fewer A and B range schools to create a distinct separation between the lower-tier schools and the powerhouses. It isn’t as easy to recruit whoever you want after a few seasons for a school with a bad reputation. It takes serious work to get your school into the conversation of those other top dogs.
The Pro Potential rating for each school is also dramatically different. In CFB 25, a school receives its rating for this category based on how much NFL-level talent it could potentially possess, considering its current roster. In CFB 26, this rating is based on the number of players from their team who have been drafted to the NFL over the past four seasons. It is now much harder for a smaller school to achieve a high grade here, requiring multiple seasons to try and even slightly shift this grade in another direction.
Offseason Work Influences Player Progression
In CFB 25, there were complaints about how a player could go a significant period without really developing. It was even more frustrating when, out of nowhere, they had a considerable boost after getting just one skill group upgraded. CFB 26 is hoping to change that, and they increased the total number of skill group levels from 10 to 20.
Not only that, but a player’s Development Trait plays a significant role in their offseason progression. Suppose I were to have a player with either the Star, Impact, or Elite development trait. In that case, they are set to improve a minimum amount during the offseason, much more than a player with a normal development trait would.
Off-season work will also see players undergo physical transformations. You might watch some of your incoming freshmen gain weight/muscle, or lose it. It’s meant to create a nice distinction between your freshman and senior players, as you could tell who’s been hitting the gym for the past few years on campus.
