What changes did Clash Royale’s April season bring?

Clash Royale troops

Releasing on the first Monday of April, which is April 6, Clash Royale’s April update brought a bunch of changes. As expected, a bunch of cards were buffed, nerfed, or even reworked to ensure the game is fair. This does change the meta of this season, but the good news is that you can just use LootBar’s services to upgrade the cards that are in the meta quicker.

This isn’t all, as the season also brought two new versions of old cards. The Balloon now has a Hero Balloon to add to its flying crew, while the newest evolution to join the fray is the Minion Horde Evolution. This already suggests that this season is expected to be more air-focused, so the meta could be flying troops. This does make sense, since the Balloon Festival will take place this month.

Of course, it also makes sense that this season also brought multiple cosmetics for Easter. The new season kicked off just a day after Easter, so expect to see a couple of eggs or rabbits in the emoji store.

What is the Hero Balloon in Clash Royale?

Skeletrooper in Clash Royale

The Hero Balloon is the main hero of Clash Royale’s April season. This troop naturally has the same attacking speed and similar DPS to regular Balloons. However, it stands out thanks to its awesome Coffin Cadets ability.

When activated, the Coffin Cadets ability uses 2 Elixir to drop a unique troop called the Skeletrooper from the Balloon. The troop drops toward the nearest ground target and deals landing damage to an area within a 2-tile radius. In a way, this drop is similar to launching a Rocket.

The kicker is that the Skeletrooper doesn’t get destroyed after the drop. Instead, it targets nearby enemy troops and buildings, just like a regular troop. While it doesn’t have too much health, it deals massive damage to the enemy’s troops and buildings.

However, there’s a downside to this. Both the drop and the Skeletrooper don’t deal nearly enough damage to Crown Towers. This means that you can’t rely on the Coffin Cadets ability to win crowns. Because of this, it’s crucial to pair the Hero Balloon with the right troops to ensure you can take advantage of its ability.

What is the Minion Horde Evolution in Clash Royale?

Minon Horde Evo

Interestingly, the Minion Horde Evolution’s individual Minions have the same basic stats as the Minions from regular Minion Hordes. However, what sets this new Evo apart from the basic version is the Horde Immunity ability.

This ability makes it so that the first strike against each member of the Minion Horde Evolution prompts them to go invincible for a couple of seconds. This invincibility can turn the Minion Horde Evolution into an awesome tank with more potential than traditional troops.

For example, sending a Minion Horde Evolution against an Inferno Tower can limit the tower’s increasing damage-per-second. Supercell likely doesn’t want to release any more overpowered Evos after what happened last year, so the Minion Horde Evolution may seem underwhelming to some. However, pairing it with the right troops can turn it into a powerhouse.

Conclusion

Clash Royale is constantly evolving, which makes sense given its competitive nature. However, it’s crucial to ensure your cards are leveled up enough to make a proper difference. If this isn’t the case with you, then you may have to buy a Clash Royale top up or two.
