Mega Lucario ex: An Overview

Mega Lucario ex

Mega Lucario ex is a Mega Evolution Pokémon. It has 4-diamond rarity and can be evolved from Riolu. Since it’s a Mega Evo Pokémon, the Mega Evolution ex rule applies. For those who don’t know, when you defeat a Mega Evolution ex Pokémon, you’ll gain 3 points, which basically means winning the match. Mega Lucario ex is not that durable with a 190 health pool, but that’s just enough for you to win the round by unleashing its offensive ability. Since this card is really worth it, we highly recommend making some top-ups to obtain it. No need to worry, Lootbar is always available for it.

The Fighting Pulse originally deals 90 damage and requires only 2 Energy. But with at least 1 additional Energy attached, you can pump up the damage by 50 more. That means with 3 Energy alone, Mega Lucario ex Pokémon TCG Pocket can easily deal 140 damage. Seeing how low the energy requirement is, you can basically wipe out the enemy’s Pokémon in a few rounds.

Best Mega Lucario ex Decks

Darkrai

Although Mega Lucario ex already works great alone, you can further expand its functionality by having other compatible Pokémon. In this case, the ones that would collaborate the best with it are Darkrai, Hitmontop, and Lucario. Let’s check each deck in more detail.

Mega Lucario ex & Darkrai Deck

This one is considered the meta Mega Lucario ex deck. The reason why we pair it with Darkrai is that it can deal passive damage when the enemy’s Pokémon is asleep. This is great for not only stalling the enemy, but also opening a chance for Mega Lucario ex’s Fighting Pulse stacking damage. The key here is to make the enemy’s Pokémon asleep as often as possible. That is why we need Igglybuff's Sleepy Lullaby, which stacks with Darkrai’s Dark Slumber. This skill deals 40 damage with a chance of sleeping the enemy’s Pokémon.

Once they’re asleep, Darkrai will unleash Bad Dreams that deal 20 damage. If you keep putting them to sleep, Darkrai will always deal 20 damage at the end of each turn. By doing chip damage, Mega Lucario ex will only need to deal late-game damage to end the match.

Mega Lucario ex & Hitmontop Deck

This deck is better as an alternative rather than the main one. The reason is that Hitmontop's role here isn’t as significant as Darkrai’s. However, Hitmontop can still support Mega Lucario ex cards by staying as an active Pokémon while you build Mega Lucario ex in the bench. What Hitmontop does is deal 20 damage to both Active and Bench Pokémon. If you attach a Rocky Helmet to it, Hitmontop will deal an additional 20 damage each time the enemy attacks you.

Mega Lucario ex & Lucario Deck

Yes, you can pair the Mega Lucario ex with the original Lucario. This Pokémon here works to buff damage from Mega Lucario ex. When placed on the field, Lucario will activate its skill, Fighting Coach, to buff Fighting Pulse damage by another 20. With that in mind, it’s possible for you to deal a total of 160 damage per round with 3 Energy attached to Mega Lucario ex.

However, since it’ll take time to evolve Lucario, you’ll need Pokémon that have low Energy requirements that could act as a bodyguard. In this case, you can depend on Hitmonlee. Its attack can target Pokémon on the bench. With Cryrus, you can always force the enemy to put the damage Pokémon on the Active Spot for the Mega Lucario ex to finish.

Best Way to Use Mega Lucario ex Deck

One way to use the Mega Lucario ex deck is to spam its offensive skill, Fighting Pulse. With trainers or support Pokémon, it’s really possible for you to deal up to 160 damage per turn, which is insane. Damage this high only requires 3 Energy, and that’s what we love about this deck. The consistency and damage amount are amazing, even when compared to the other Mega Evolution Pokémon. If you really want to get this deck, Lootbar can help you with that.

So, what you need to do first is to evolve Mega Lucario ex as quickly as possible. It would be better to have another support Pokémon that may act as your bodyguard. You can use either Darkrai or Hitmontop, then utilize their decks respectively.

How to Counter Mega Lucario ex Deck

Mega Altaria ex

Since it’s so easy to evolve Mega Lucario ex, you’ll have to defeat its basic evolution Pokémon as quickly as possible. Use your strongest Psychic Pokémon that can deal noticeable damage without the need for much Energy, like Mega Altaria ex, Cofagrigus, or Mega Gardevoir ex.

Another strategy is to make sure that Mega Lucario ex has the fewest Energy as possible. You can achieve it by using Pokémon or Trainers, like Team Rocket Grunt, Guzzlord ex, and Piers, who have Energy-decreasing abilities.

Conclusion

Mega Lucario ex deck is indeed one of the best decks you can build in the Pulsing Aura expansion of Pokémon TCG Pocket. Its consistency and damage are hard to beat, especially for the new players who look for a strong deck to collect. Therefore, it's always a good idea to collect some good cards for building better decks. So, make a Pokémon TCG Pocket top up to collect all the great cards the game has to offer, including the ones necessary for Mega Lucario ex decks.
