Gambit has really spiced things up with his introduction in Season 5 of Marvel Rivals. He’s instantly become one of the top Strategist picks in the game because of his high healing and good abilities. He's the first hero in the game to have a two separate pages for his abilities, which should give you an idea of just how complicated he can be at the start.
But, once you get a better idea of what his kit does, it’s easier to learn him. That’s why we’ll be breaking down Gambit’s kit so you can learn how to play better with him. And if you want some extra style while playing him, get his Thief’s Guild skin, or other skins and even Marvel Rivals lattice, for cheap by checking out LootBar for deals on Marvel Rivals Lattice and more.

A Rundown of Gambit’s Abilities
Here’s every single one of his abilities explained:
Primary Fire (Left Click)
His primary fire, Kinetic Cards, hurls three arcing cards that detonate on impact for single-target explosions. Thhis damages foes and heals teammates. It's your bread-and-butter poke; spam it mid-range for hybrid value, especially in clumps. With quick fire rate and deck abilities reloading ammo, keep constant pressure. Most importantly, predict enemy paths to clip backline healers while topping off your frontliners.
Cajun Charge (Shift Ability)
Dash forward with your bo staff for a quick side-step evade or reposition. Chain it into Bayou Bash for Big Easy Impact, a longer sprint slamming three explosions along the path. This is a perfect strategy for chasing kills, peeling divers, or self-healing while escaping. Two charges on 12.5s recharge mean double-tap for aggressive engages; glance down mid-dash to glue to targets and land every hit.
Bayou Bash (Right Click)
Channel energy into your staff for a sweeping strike, then ground slam a shockwave that damages nearby enemies and heals allies. Great area control; use solo for peels or combo'd for burst mobility. Dual charges recharge every 8s, so prime it after dashes to extend fights or emergency heal the other Strategist on your team in tight spots.
Healing Hearts / Breaking Spades (Stance Switch)
Gambit's passive Sleight of Hand builds 4 stacks (regen every 8s). Consume one to switch: Healing Hearts for self-heal over time, or Breaking Spades for personal damage boost. Then burn another stack for empowerment. Always hoard two stacks for clutch plays, as decks last 6s with self-buffs.
In Healing Hearts:
- Bridge Hearts (Flush) fires a full deck that bounces between allies, granting health and healing boosts that are ideal for grouped pushes. Needs 2+ allies to chain fully; line up your team for max bounces.
- Purifying Pick-Up (Raise) launches a cluster arc; explosions heal and Purify debuffs like stuns from Hulk or Strange ults. This is a really useful cleanse, so save it for breaking CC chains on your carry.
In Breaking Spades:
- Explosive Trick (Flush) blasts a full set forward, exploding for damage and Reduced Healing, which can take enemy healers out of the game for a few moments. Long-range anti-heal shines off-angle; pair with flankers for picks.
- Bidding Barrage (Raise) scatters cards everywhere, exploding to damage and launch foes upward. That can be pretty useful for peeling Black Panther or Daredevil off your backline. Short-range nuke for divers; combo post-dash to launch them sky-high.
Ragin' Royal Flush (Q/Ultimate Ability)
Lock an ally and unleash Aces for instant heal/Purify. Both enter Kinetic Transfer. This leads to speed/jump boosts for you and the targeted ally, explosive damage on attacks, and faster ult charging. Pair this with Magneto's team-up sword to destroy enemy teams. But, any good teammates that know how to aggressively push will make the most out of Gambit’s ult. All you have to do is communicate and know the right time to use it.
When is Gambit in His Element?
Gambit thrives on flank-heavy maps like Central Park or Yggsgard, where multiple angles let you poke/heal deep. He's really good vs 3 healer comps, since anti-heal shreds healers like Luna, while Purify counters CC ults. Flank aggressively with divers like Blade, Magik, or Magneto (their team-up together is great for damage). One of the best parts for new players is that, in lower ranks, his burst makes short work of less skilled divers.
When Not To Use Gambit
It’s not a great idea to use Gambit if the enemy has a good burst dive like Hulk (who can stun and interrupt stacks), Wolverine, Daredevil, or Psylocke. Any good player with these heroes will close gaps and delete your 275 HP before you react. Heavy burst dives force defensive plays, wasting Gambit’s aggressive style of play. He’s good at fending off one dive DPS, but anything more than that will leave Gambit helpless since he has no escape mobility or sleep/freeze. He does have a great skin though, and you can get it for cheap by checking out LootBar!
Conclusion
Gambit is well worth learning because of how good he is in the current meta. Just make sure to follow our tips and use all his abilities to their full potential.
