The Mastery system in Brawl Stars was introduced in February 2023 as a new progression feature. Many players were initially excited, as it offered more personalized development for their favorite Brawlers along with additional rewards.
Mastery Points could only be earned by winning matches. Players who were awarded the Star Player title received a 30% bonus. Each Brawler had their own progression path with ten ranks in total – from Wood to Gold III. From Mastery to Trophy Road – Good News or Bad News?
After the Mastery system was removed, the rewards it contained — Coins, Power Points, Credits, and cosmetic items—were retained but moved to other, more accessible places. These mainly include the new Trophy Road, Star Drops, and the new “Records” system. Instead of receiving resources directly as before, players now get some of them randomly through Star Drops. This makes the rewards a bit less predictable but also more exciting. Especially legendary Star Drops are expected to appear more frequently in the future.
The distribution of rewards works as follows: 100,400 Coins and 10,800 Power Points as pure currency flow directly into the new Trophy Road. Furthermore, 4,800 Bling are newly introduced into the system — or over 32,000 Bling if the value of the Star Drops is included.
These numbers reflect the average content of Star Drops and overall represent a clear improvement in the amount of free resources available for new players. At the same time, the amount of Power Points is reduced by 20,416, which is a significant nerf. However, thanks to the redesigned Trophy Road, new players are expected to receive the needed Power Points more purposefully and according to their needs, making it easier to get started.
In addition, the new “Records” system largely replaces the previous Mastery rewards. Players earn points through special achievements, such as wins with certain Brawlers or spectacular plays. These points can be exchanged for cosmetic rewards like titles, pins, or Battle Pass frames. The system is intended to provide more long-term motivation to stay active beyond the daily quests. How well it will hold up compared to the old Mastery system remains to be seen.
