How Yoruichi works in Bleach: Soul Resonance
The basics
Yoruichi is a full assault, tactic type character who excels in mobility, survivabilty aand high impact close-quarters combat. Importantly, to simulate her lightning fast speed, utilising her counterattack, ultimate and special attack stops the in game timer for their duration. For the most damage output, her preferred rotation includes maximising as many counterattacks and special attacks as possible, as this is where her damage is focused.
Shunko form
Shunko is a state Yoruichi activates after using her ultimate, acting as a buff that's identifible by her change in outfit where she removes her orange outer top. The buff lasts for 10 seconds, increasing her attack and Spiritual Pressure Charge Rate, letting her more rapidly release special attacks. It also allows her to release a special attack instntly without consuming any Spiritual Pressure.
Hakuda - Blitz
Hakuda - Blitz is the aforementioned special attack, by holding the basic attack button when at maximum Spiritual Pressure, indicated by an icon next to her health bar, Yoruichi jumps into the air and slams into the ground. This is a part of her best rotations due to it being one of the ways she can stop the in game timer during battle, as well as being charged instantly through her ultimate.
Lightning Seal
Her most important passive to understand is Thunderclap, which grants her a stack of Lightning seal for 15 seconds each time she uses her technique, counterattack or special attack up to 4 times. Each seal increases her strike damage, so to maximise her damage output, it's ideal to maintain all 4 seals whenever she is on-field.
True Time Freeze
The final important thing to know about Yoruichi's kit is identifying the increased importance for her, which is dodging. Now yes, dodging is always important as you don't want to be defeated before getting the chance to pull off any of these cool moves, but for Yoruichi it also activates the True Time Freeze buff. It's key to know that this only activates after a Perfect Dodge, which you'll know you've done because time will slow down for 1.5 seconds and she will receive a portion of her her Spirtual Pressure for her special attack. The buff itself gives her increased attack and movement speed for 4 seconds, so it's worth thinking about having these buffs to more speedily building her ultimate and Spiritual Pressure gauge.
Yoruichi's weapons
Hakuda and Kido is Yoruichi's exclusive weapon and her best in slot by a significant amount. It provides her a whole litany of buffs including: while in her Shunko form, she instantly gains half of her maximum stacks of Lightning seal, as well as making Lightning seals provide additional crit rate. She also gains increased special attack damage, instantly fills her Spiritual Pressure after a counterattack and allows her to instantly use a counterattack after using her ultimate.
A good SR alternative if you want to save your pulls or are prioritising other SSR standard banner weapon stamps, is the Power Strike which increases base attack whenever strike damage is dealt.
Best stamps and stats
Core stamps:
- Raging Thunder - When entering any battle, Yoruichi starts with her maxed out ultimate energy; she also gets longer in her Shunko form by 5 seconds. Her core stamp additionally gives increased Spiritual Pressure Charge Rate and significantly more ultimate damage.
- I've Been Waiting for You - Landing any attack increases the damage of the next ultimate up to 20 times.
- Gather Up! Thirteen Court Guard Squads - Each use of a special attack, triggers an additional attack of the same type with reduced damage.
Set stamp:
- Midnight Specter - This set boosts strike damage on its' two piece, then boosts ultimate damage, as well as extra special attack damage for 10 seconds each time a basic attack is used, stacking up to 5 times on it's three piece.
Reccomended stats:
Crit rate > Crit damage > Attack > Ultimate charge rate
Important Boundary ascensions
Ascension II
Increases the Lightning seal stack limit to 8, which is a big boost to her strike damage, and if you have her weapon stamp, an further boost to her crit rate.
Ascension VI
Reduces Yoruichi's Perfect Dodge cooldown by 8 seconds, plus an increase in crit damage for 15 seconds for every Perfect Dodge, with a max stack of 3. This is a noteworthy boost as it fits perfectly into her perfect rotation.
Team comps
Unfortunately, strike teams have been rather overlooked since the games release, only recently getting the first limited SSR strike character, which limits the amount of teams available for Yoruichi. For the support spot, Kisuke Urahara is the premium option, providing a general increase to any teams crit damage. Although, Nemu Kurotsuchi can also be a good support choice, giving an increase to strike damage, and as an SR character it can be easier to get her to boundary ascension VI, allowing her to be only slightly behind Kisuke on strike teams. For the tactic spot, the new release Soi Fon is by far the best option and sadly it isn't a close competition for that spot. Soi Fon enables Yoruichi by giving her more consistent counterattacks and dealing huge damage with her ultimate, ideally used at the end of Yoruichi's rotation as a finsihed. The other tactic choice is Sajin Komamura, providing the best survivability for any team in the whole game, as well as some strike damage resistance and a finisher ability similar to Soi Fon, however the damge is regrettably nowhere nearly as close.
Conslusion
For players who logged in during Soi Fon's release, they all got a free copy of Yoruichi, making it a no brainer to get and build her ASAP for your strike team. After some much needed buffs, Yoruichi can stand again with the strongest team comps like Aizen and Gin, so you really should get her now! If you want her to even surpass the strongest teams, you should consider buying some BLEACH Soul Resonance Spirit Coins to get Yoruichi's boundary ascensions, or just to get her best teammates.
