Prologue

Black Myth Wukong prologue

While it isn’t technically part of the first chapter, it’s still fair to include the game’s prologue in this guide. Of course, we’ll spoil much of what happens here, but if you want to experience everything without knowing what’s about to happen, then we recommend that you buy the game from a platform such as LootBar.

With that out of the way, the prologue is essentially one long fight. You control Sun Wukong and fight the gods of the Celestial Court. This takes about 15 minutes and is filled with some of the coolest moments in any modern game. Don’t worry about dying here, because you don’t have a health bar.

Forest of Wolves

Forest of the Wolves Black Myth Wukong

After the tutorial, you’ll control the Destined One and eventually be dropped in the Forest of the Wolves. Take down the enemy in front of you and go right when you come across the fork on the road. Take down the Wolf Stalward and unlock the first Keeper’s Shrine of the game.

Keep moving forward from here and cross the bridge on your path. You’ll face a bunch of wolves and even a Crow Diviner, but it shouldn’t be anything you can’t handle. The path forward will lead you to the Bullguard, who’s technically the first boss of the game. Here, you’ll learn the Immobilize spell, which will let you freeze enemies temporarily.

With this boss out of the way, move forward and go through the cave that you see to reach the Outside the Forest shrine. This will temporarily turn you into a Cicada as you explore the nearby areas. Cross the bridge right of the shrine to face the Wandering Wight, who is an optional boss. You can also explore the opposite path to come across Guangzhi.

Guangzhi is the toughest fight you’ll face so far. However, when you do take it down, you’ll get the ability to transform into him and wield his flaming spear. With this fight done, enter the Guanyin Temple and explore the straightforward path ahead. Keep moving forward, as you eventually have to fight Lingxuzi, who shouldn’t be an issue for you as long as you use the transformation spell.

After taking your first Yaoguai King down, you can exit the Forst of Wolves from the back exit to reach the Back Hills shrine.

Bamboo Grove

Black Myth Wukong Whitelong Noble

Explore a little here to speak with the horse NPC and use the meditation spot. Then leave the cave and follow the path forward. Go up the stairs that are in front of you instead of jumping into the water, and cross the bridge to reach the Snake Trail shrine. You’ll have to defeat a Crow Diviner here first, but that shouldn’t be too tough.

Climb the stairs here and speak with the old man NPC to learn how to cultivate spirits. This’ll definitely come in handy later in the game. With that done, follow the path forward until you reach a bamboo clearing. There are some enemies here who will want to ambush you, so try to be careful.

Go to the north of the clearing to find a pathway marked by torches. Here, you’ll start a fight against Guangmou, who uses ranged attacks and poison sprays. Dodge a lot and use the Red Tides transformation to make quick work of this boss, letting you access the Marsh of the White Mist shrine.

Follow the pathway downward here, speaking with the NPC who offers to help you upgrade your Gourds and Drinks on the way. You’ll reach a lake at the end of the platforms, where you’ll have to face Whiteclad Noble. This is easily the toughest boss so far, using snake-based moves to damage you a lot. He also has a second form that you must take care of, so saving your spells for that may be the way to go.

Take down this boss and enter the cave that the noble was guarding to reach the Cave Interior shrine.

Black Wind Cave

Black Myth Wukong chapter 1 final boss

There’s still one area left before you can move to the second chapter. Continue forward to meet Black Wind King. This boss has the artifact you’re looking for, and is a fairly tough boss. He can even turn into a gust of wind, making things even tougher. Use proper timings to take this boss down, letting you access the Outside the Cave shrine.

Now, you want to keep climbing the mountain. Defeat every enemy in your path, moving toward the top of the mountain. The Wolf Archers here may be a little annoying, but you can just use your newly found Cloud Step ability to make quick work of them. Save at the Bodhi Peak shrine and ensure you’re rested because the final boss is up ahead.

This chapter’s final boss is the Black Bear Guai. This boss hits very hard, even if he’s a little slow because of his size. Use parrying and your spells to eventually take this boss down, finishing the first chapter of Black Myth: Wukong.

Conclusion

Black Myth: Wukong may only have six chapters. But they’re all stacked with content. It wouldn’t be a stretch to call it one of the most content-packed games that hasn’t come from a known developer. If you want to determine for yourself if there’s any truth to this, you can always buy a Black Myth: Wukong Steam key.
