Oricorio Card
Oricorio is an Electric-type that was launched in the Celestial Guardians. It is the perfect card to use against the strong and overwhelming ex Pokemons. It is best practiced against Stage 2 Pokemons such as Charizard EX, Solgaleo EX, Decidueye EX, etc.
The Special ability - Safeguard, lets Oricorio gain immunity against any attack damage inflicted by an EX Pokemon. But, this doesn’t apply to abilities and Status damage.
Game-Style
This is an Oricorio + Greninja Deck. So, the game strategy depends on Oricorio to deflect or soak up any damage inflicted from the Ex pocket. This will require the Oricorio to lead. And to back him up, in the backline, we will have Greninjas and Giratina. These two cards will focus on energy setup and putting pressure on the enemy Pokemons. Greninja has a great poking ability that can deal damage even to the backline and Giratina with his massive HP and burst potential will help you to attack and finish off any Ex or High Sustain Pokemon.
The Deck
The deck consists of:
2 x Oricorio
Oricorio is an Electric-type Pokemon and the main hero of our deck. It has a base health of 70HP and while this Card provides complete protection from the Enemy EX cards, it can also dish out 50 damage with - Zzzap. It requires one Electric and one Colorless energy to charge up. And remember that it is usually able to Counter most of the Ex-based lineup, but non-Ex lineup might pose a threat to this Pokemon.
2 x Greninja
Greninja is a Water-type Stage 2 card. It requires only 1 Water energy and 1 colorless energy to get online. But his ability - Water Shuriken is solid to poke and weaken the enemy Pokemons. The ability deals 20 damage to any one of the Enemy Pokemon. Once charged, Mist Slash can also deal 60 damage. In case you don't have the Pokemon, buy Poké Gold to open more packs to gain the card easily.
1 x Giratina
Giratina is a Psychic-type Ex card. It is there to strengthen the offense of the deck and for late-game potential. While Greninja will weaken the enemy, Giratina can inflict a high amount of damage to finish them off. His ability - Broken-Space Bellow lets you charge him up for free. But only use it at the end of your turn because once you use it, your turn ends. The Card provides 150HP and 130 Damage.
2 x Froakie
Froakie is the pre-evolution of Greninja. Froakie can deal 20 damage to any Pokemon without any energy attached to it. We will use it to further evolve into 2 Greninjas.
2 x Professor’s Research
Professor’s Research is a Trainer card. Professor’s Research is a must in order to draw cards faster as the card allows you to draw 2 cards at a time.
2 x Cyrus
Cyrus is a Trainer card. You can use this card only once during your turn. This card is useful when the main threat of the enemy deck is benched. The card's ability lets you switch one of the opponent’s benched Pokemon up into the front.
1 x Irida
Irida is a support Trainer card. It restores +40HP of the damage inflicted to any of your Pokemon that has a Water energy attached to it.
1 x Pokemon Center Lady
It is also a support Trainer card that heals +30HP of the damage taken from any one of the Pokemon and removes any Condition from it. This will help our Oricorio to stay in the battle for long against non-Ex Pokemon.
1 x Guzma
Guzma is a Trainer card. It removes all the tool cards attached to each of the enemy Pokemons. That is, if there is a Rocky helmet on a Pokemon, Guzma will remove it.
1 x Iono
Iono is also a Trainer card that forces both players to shuffle the current in-hand card and lets you draw that many random cards from the deck. It is mostly used when your in-hand cards are useless and you need to switch them.
2 x Poke Ball
Poke balls are a Trainer card. It allows you to draw a Pokemon card from the deck. These are very useful in this strategy in cases where you didn't get any Oricorio in your hand and the opponent led with their Ex cards.
2 x Rare Candy
Rare Candy is a game-setter. They will be crucial to evolve the Froakies into Greninjas. You won’t want to lose them.
1 x Giant Cape
Giant Cape is another Support card that can heal up to +20 HP of any of your Pokemon.
The Weakness
While the strategy is a good counter against most Ex-Heavy decks, it will likely fall off if the enemy has no Ex Pokemon or a Lucario in their deck. Lucario can one-hit KO our Oricorio as it is weak against fighting-type Pokemon.
Additionally, to ensure Victory as soon as possible, you should try to eliminate the basic normal pokemons in the opponent's hands, as they are the only damage dealer to your Active Pokemon that is Oricorio.
