The best Evos in Clash Royale (ranked)

The base versions of most Clash Royale troops are well and good, but Supercell decided that some troops could use something more. Thanks to this, the developer opted to release evolution forms, or Evos, that take some beloved troops to the next level. We thought we’d compile a list of our favorite Evos in Clash Royale, ranking them from best to worst, so you know which one to chase for your deck.

Evolved Royal Ghost

Evolved Royal Ghost

Despite being relatively new, the Evolved Royal Ghost has quickly become a fan-favorite among fans. Like with the base version, Evo Royal Ghost turns invisible as soon as he spawns, turning invisible until he attacks someone once, before which no enemy troop can target him. This is already an awesome ability, since air troops are practically useless against Evo Royal Ghost if he’s invisible, letting him sneak by. This is also why many players have spent countless Clash Royale gems to level up this troop.

The additional ability this version of the Royal Ghost has is that it summons Souldiers, which are melee ground troops with relatively high hit points. These troops are excellent in ensuring that the Royal Ghost constantly has someone to soak most of the damage, while he does his stuff and deals heavy damage to the enemy’s troops.

The best strategy for the Evolved Royal Ghost is to have a secondary tank unit that can soak up even more. Ideally, this unit should be someone like the Golem or Tank who goes directly for the tower, but a non-building targeting troop like the Mega Knight also works.

Evolved Baby Dragon

Evolved Baby Dragon

While the base Baby Dragon is usually used for its high damage potential, the same doesn’t apply to its Evo form. The Evolved Baby Dragon may have the same stats as its regular version, but it also produces wind around itself that slows enemy troops by 30% while also speeding up allies by 50%. This is insanely useful for players who utilize slow troops, like Giants and other tanks, since the added speed makes heavy pushes easier.

If this wasn’t enough, the Evo Baby Dragon’s wind lingers for a couple of seconds even after it dies, letting players potentially find their push and get the tower. Having a slow but squishy troop like the Balloon is also a good idea, since the Evo Baby Dragon can just tank most of the damage directed toward the Balloon, letting it deal serious damage by reaching the tower.

Evolved Royal Hogs

Evolved Royal Hogs

Base Royal Hogs were already considered some of the best building-prioritizing troops in the game because of their number and speed. Evolved Royal Hogs take these benefits a step further by giving these little piggies wings, letting them fly when they’re sent onto the battlefield.

The Evolved Royal Hogs stay as air troops while they travel toward the tower or the closest defensive building. They fall to the ground if they’re either damaged or they attack an enemy structure, basically becoming regular Royal Hogs. While this may not sound like much, using these troops with other tanks that can distract enemy troops and let the Evolved Royal Hogs reach the tower is an excellent strategy, especially if all four Royal Hogs can reach the tower.

Evolved Royal Giant

Evolved Royal Giant

Evolved Royale Giant is one of the most popular Evos aside from Evolved Royal Ghost, and it’s no surprise why. This troop is primarily the same as its base version, with the same stats. While the look is naturally different, with the Evolved Royal Giant wearing an indigo coat that has gold lines, along with chainmail armor and a purple crown, his base attack is fairly different.

The Evolved Royal Giant can shoot its canon at any building, whether it’s the tower or a defense building. However, similar to an Electric Giant, he also damages enemies in a 2.5 tile radius around himself. Thanks to this, the Evo Royal Giant can comfortably take down squishy enemies attempting to harm him, including Bats and Goblins.

The ideal trick is to have some squishy and high-damaging ranged troop behind the Evolved Royal Giant, including the Magic Archer and Firecracker. These ranged troops can deal good damage to whatever is in front of the Evo Royal Giant to protect him, or make quick work of enemy air troops who can counter the Evo Royal Giant. Pair the Evo troop with something like a Rage Spell to further increase his damage, or use a Freeze Spell to ensure no one can target it, letting him damage the tower.

Evolved Cannon

Evolved Cannon

Despite being the Evo of a common card, the Evolved Cannon is easily one of the best evolutions in the game. While the card usually works just like a normal cannon, having the same stats and dealing the same damage, it’s what happens when the card is sent onto the battlefield that puts it in a league of its own.

Sending out the Evolved Cannon prompts nine cannonballs to instantly shoot out, with five firing on the top row and four on the bottom. These cannonballs deal serious damage that can comfortably take out hordes of troops like the Minion Horde and Skeleton Army, while also knocking back enemies that don’t die, letting the player send other troops to make quick work of them.

Conclusion

This concludes our list of the five best Evo cards in Clash Royale. While your list may slightly differ, all five of these cards definitely have the potential to take any deck to a new tier. Of course, they must be at a high enough level to efficiently work, which is why it may be a good idea to buy a Clash Royale top up or two to get your cards up to speed.
