  • Degenbrecher Overview

Degenbrecher is a 6-star Swordmaster Guard and former three-time champion of the Kazimierz Major, bringing her unmatched physical dominance to the battlefield without a single drop of Originium Arts. Every one of her normal attacks strikes twice in quick succession. Effectively doubling her damage output on each swing. On any hit, she has a 10% chance to trigger Born Warrior, boosting her ATK and Frightening the target. Any Frightened enemy she attacks has a portion of their DEF ignored thanks to Living Legend. Her signature skill, Return to Silence, makes her invulnerable while she unleashes ten rapid slashes at everything around her, each one guaranteed to trigger Born Warrior, before finishing with a powerful final strike that pulls enemies toward her. Unlike every other Swordmaster Guard skill, Return to Silence charges automatically, meaning she doesn't need enemies to build SP and is always ready when it matters most.

Degenbrecher Talents

Below are Degenbrecher's talent breakdowns in Arknights:

Talent 1 - Born Warrior (Available from base, improves at E1 and E2)

On any hit, Degenbrecher has a 10% chance to boost her ATK to 160% and Frighten the target for 5 seconds. At base this triggers at 130%, improving to 160% at E2. With her double-hit trait, she effectively rolls this proc twice per attack. It triggers more consistently than the raw 10% chance suggests. The ATK boost applies to the triggering hit itself, so it contributes directly to the burst rather than just setting up the next one.

Living Legend (Unlocked at Elite 22)

While Born Warrior is a damage proc on its own, Living Legend is what makes it truly dangerous. Whenever Degenbrecher attacks a Frightened enemy, she ignores 25% of their DEF (up to 30% with higher Potential). Crucially, the hit that triggers Born Warrior also benefits from Living Legend simultaneously, meaning the boosted ATK strike and the DEF shred land together on the same attack. In practice, this turns every Born Warrior proc into a significant spike of armor-piercing burst damage, and since Return to Silence always triggers Born Warrior, every single slash during her S3 benefits from both talents at once.

Degenbrecher Skill Priority

Below are the skill upgrade and Mastery priorities for Degenbrecher in Arknights:

SkillPriority
S3 - Return to Silence★★★★★ (Highest)
S2 - Silent Derision★★★ (Situational)
S1 - Pure Force★★ (Low)

Get all three skills to Level 7 first before investing in any Mastery. Degenbrecher is one of the more Mastery-dependent 6★ Operators, her damage numbers scale significantly with investment, and Return to Silence in particular hits much harder at M3 than at SL7. Prioritize her S3 first, then S2 if you plan to use her regularly.

S3 - Return to Silence (M3) - (Best Choice)

Return to Silence is Degenbrecher's defining skill and the main reason she sits among the top Guards in the game. She becomes invulnerable and unleashes 10 rapid slashes at up to 6 enemies within a 2-tile radius. Every single one guaranteed to trigger Born Warrior and Living Legend, before landing a devastating final strike that pulls enemies toward her. The auto SP recovery means she charges reliably without needing enemies present, keeping her ready for boss phases and dangerous waves alike. Mastery significantly improves her ATK multiplier per slash, resulting in a large overall damage increase that makes M3 a priority investment.

S2 - Silent Derision (M3) - (Secondary Priority

Silent Derision icon

Silent Derision is Degenbrecher's best skill for sustained single-target and multi-target pressure outside of her S3 windows. It slashes up to 6 enemies in a 2×3 range twice, or three times if she's blocking the target, and always procs Born Warrior on every hit. It also stores 2 charges, giving it strong uptime. Mastery improves the ATK multiplier and SP cost, making it noticeably more efficient. A solid secondary investment once S3 is done.

S1 - Pure Force - (Skip)

Pure Force deals increased damage to surrounding ground enemies on activation. It's functional but outclassed in every meaningful situation by both S2 and S3. No compelling reason to invest Mastery here.

Degenbrecher Module

Footnotes of the Past image

Module Information
ModuleSWO-X - Footnotes of the Past
Recommended StageStage 2
PriorityHigh - pursue after S3M3

Degenbrecher's SWO-X module is a straightforward but impactful upgrade. It increases her skill damage by 10% and boosts her HP, ATK, and DEF across all stages. Once upgraded at Stage 2, it also increases Born Warrior's ATK modifier, directly amplifying the damage of every proc, and since Return to Silence guarantees Born Warrior on every slash, the upgrade benefits every single hit of her S3. Stage 3 exists but offers diminishing returns relative to the cost, making Stage 2 the sweet spot for most players. Pursue it after S3M3.

Is Degenbrecher Worth Pulling?

Short answer: Yes

Strengths

  • Return to Silence delivers ludicrous burst damage to multiple enemies while making her invulnerable
  • Auto SP recovery on S3 means she charges consistently without needing enemies present
  • Every slash in Return to Silence guarantees Born Warrior and Living Legend, stacking DEF shred on every hit
  • Silent Derision provides strong sustained damage with 2 charges and reliable Born Warrior procs
  • Straightforward to use. High value with minimal setup required
  • Available in the standard pool, so she can be obtained through recruitment and future rerun.

Weaknesses

  • Below-average DEF for a Guard; can be fragile in extended fights without support
  • Block count of 2 limits her frontline holding capability
  • Born Warrior is a 10% proc chance on normal attacks, making its timing outside of S3 unpredictable
  • High DP cost increases further with each promotion
  • Relatively low Arts resistance makes her vulnerable to Arts-heavy enemies

Pull if you:

  • Want a top-tier Guard with reliable burst damage and multi-target coverage
  • Play high-difficulty content like Contingency Contract or Integrated Strategies regularly
  • Don't own a strong AoE burst Guard yet

Skip if you:

  • Already have a well-built roster of high-damage Guards
  • Are saving for higher-priority upcoming banners
  • Are early-game and short on Elite 2 materials

Conclusion

As one of the strongest Guards in Arknights, Degenbrecher is a rock-solid pick for Doctors who want reliable burst damage and multi-target coverage without any complicated setup.
