What DLCs are coming for Resident Evil Requiem?

Because of the success of Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom’s director Koshi Nakanishi made a video thanking fans. Of course, those who haven’t gotten their hands on this absolute gem of a game can change that by getting it from platforms such as LootBar. In addition to telling fans that five million copies had been sold, he also revealed what’s next for the game’s future.

Photo Mode

The first major update to come to Resident Evil Requiem will be through a Photo Mode. This will likely be a free update that players will be able to download when it comes out. With the game being praised for its visuals as much as it has, it makes sense that Capcom will want to give players a way to promote this selling point through awesome images on social media.

The number of games that utilize Photo Mode is ever-increasing. However, only some games actually give the mode the respect it deserves. Those who are truly passionate about taking photos will want additional features, including filters and the option to have characters make specific poses for the photos.

Mini-game update

Resident Evil Requiem will also get a mini-game update in the near future. However, it’s currently unknown what the mini-game will be. According to popular speculations, there’s a good chance that the mini-game could be the iconic Mercenaries or Raid modes. Both modes are essentially time-attack modes where players attempt to finish missions quickly.

Aside from this, there are a handful of other mini-games that players can potentially see. For example, the target shooting mini-game from Resident Evil 4 is already connected to Leon, so it wouldn’t be a stretch to see him give his shooting skills another test. Who knows, this could also be a smart way to reintroduce the merchant from the same game.

Story expansion

The DLC that most players are looking forward to is the story expansion. It’s confirmed that a DLC that continues the story of Resident Evil Requiem is currently under development, even if it’s unknown what the DLC will revolve around.

Looking at how the base game focused on the Raccoon City incident from Resident Evil 2, there’s a good chance that the DLC may show Leon travel to deliver a cure for the T-Virus to someone. It wouldn’t be surprising if that someone is Ada, especially since Ada was also present in Raccoon City during the incident and should be suffering from the evolved virus.

The base game revealed that Leon is also married now. It wouldn’t be surprising if the DLC answered who the fan-favorite character settled down with. Some of the top contenders seem to be:

  • Ada

  • Claire

  • Ashley

There’s a chance that the DLC could be just like Resident Evil 4’s Separate Ways DLC. That had you control Ada Wong, and leakers have stated that RE9’s story DLC will have to do with Ada in some way.

When will the Resident Evil Requiem story DLC come out?

Capcom didn’t give any release date or window for RE9’s story DLC. But it isn’t a stretch to say that it’ll likely take at least a couple of months. The reveal video stated that there was some time left for it, which means that you may have to wait until 2027.

The end of 2026 would have been a good guess. However, single-player developers, in particular, will likely wish to shy away from that release period. The reason being the major release of Grand Theft Auto 6, a game that is sure to captivate the entire industry for even months after the release.

Luckily, the rest of the updates won't be that far behind. It wouldn't be a shock if the Photo Mode update drops in April or May as it's a free update, after all.

Conclusion

Resident Evil Requiem is exactly what fans hoped for. It has the story and gameplay that set it at the top of the franchise for many. Of course, it helps that there are so many callbacks and references to other entries in the series. Those who don’t want to get spoiled may want to buy a Resident Evil Requiem Steam key ASAP, especially with the game’s popularity being as high as it is.
