Points of no return are extremely common in modern games. Performing certain actions can lock you out of certain quests or bosses. This urges players to want to complete everything quicker. Black Myth: Wukong falls under this category as well, since it has a bunch of missables that you’ll want to get to before it’s too late.

Does Black Myth: Wukong have any points of no return?
You won’t get locked out of getting a specific ending in Black Myth: Wukong. This is regardless of how far you go. You can just redo the boss after doing the extra content to get the secret ending. Of course, we won’t spoil what either ending does, so you’ll have to get the game for yourself from a platform such as LootBar.
However, the game does have some soft points of no return. These include missable boss fights, side quests, and even transformations. Knowing everything you can miss out on before you start is a good idea.
All missables in Black Myth: Wukong
The game has a handful of bosses and other things that you can potentially miss. In particular, all three bosses drop something cool that could help you later down the line.
Wandering Wight Boss Fight and Spirit
The Wandering Wight is a cheeky boss that you can fight in the very first chapter. This boss is located in the Forest of Wolves, just near the Outside the Forest incense shrine. Just go straight and stick to the right side of the path, and you’ll see this boss after crossing a short bridge.
With this being said, this boss will disappear for good if you unlock this chapter’s secret area. The good news is that unlocking Chapter 1’s secret area requires you to ring three bells. The bells require you to progress ahead of the Wandering Wight Spirit, which means there’s a good chance that most players will already beat this boss before moving forward.
The Wandering Wight drops the Wandering Wight Spirit, which you likely won’t be able to absorb at that time. When you do get the ability to absorb spirits, just interact with a shrine to collect the Wandering Wight Spirit. With a massive increase to the defense stat, high poise, and the ability to break hidden areas, this spirit is one worth getting.
Scorpionlord Boss Fight and Stained Jade Gourd
Chapter 4’s secret area has a couple of directions you can go. Go northeast from where you enter this area to find the Scorpionlord boss. This boss inflicts poison, which can get annoying extremely quickly.
However, those who don’t know about this boss’s existence could continue following the main path. This will lead them to the Duskveil, who is this area’s boss. Defeating Duskveil will make the Scorpionlord boss unchallengable. In addition to missing out on some nice materials, you’ll also miss out on getting the Stained Jade Gourd, which massively increases drinking speed.
Daoist Mi Boss Fight and Violet Hail Transformation
Chapter four also has the Daoist Mi boss fight that you want to take care of before fighting the Duskveil. Beating this boss gives you the Violet Hail transformation, and that isn’t even everything.
While some don’t know about this, taking down the extra arms while fighting this boss will also give you the Venemous Armguard. While not really anything too special in the late and post-game, this is the only chance you have to get this item.
Poisetone Spirit
The Mother of Stone boss is found near Chapter 2’s Rockrest Flat shrine. Instead of beating this boss straight away, you want to take down the nearby Poisetone enemies. One of these enemies will drop the Poisetone Spirit. Beating the Mother of Stone boss first will cause the Poisetone to despawn, making this spirit unobtainable.
Second Rat Prince Spirit
The Second Prince of Flowing Sands and his father, the King, are mandatory bosses that you must complete in the second chapter. If you want to ensure you don’t miss out on the Second Rat Prince Spirit, you want to defeat the King first. This will slightly change the cutscene that plays near the end, giving you this handy spirit for your troubles.
Auspicious Lantern
The Auspicious Lantern is the only missable Curio in the game, and one that’s very easy to lose. Near the start of Chapter 3, you’ll be transported to the prison area of the Pagoda Realm. When you do, you’ll have to escape from the prison while avoiding or beating all of the Lantern Wardens in the area.
If you want the Auspicious Lantern Curio, you’ll want to defeat all nine of these wardens before moving forward. In particular, you want to do it before fighting Captain Wise-Voice. Since this Curio adds an additional effect to the Cloud Step transformation, while increasing attack in exchange for health, it’s more than worth getting.
Apramana Bat Spirit
The Apramana Bat is an optional Yaoguai Chief boss that you can find in the third chapter. The boss will be near the North Shore of the Bitter Lake Keeper's Shrine, but there’s a catch. The only way to face this boss is to ensure that Zhu Bajie is accompanying you.
This means that you want to get to it as soon as you reach this shrine and before you reach the next shrine. This is because the NPC will eventually stop accompanying you, locking you out from fighting this boss and getting its spirit.
Dark Thunder Transformation
Ma Tianba appears in the first five chapters. You must speak with him in one chapter to have him appear in the next. Speak with him in all five chapters to get the Dark Thunder Transformation. However, you must do it before defeating the Keeper of the Flaming Mountains in the fifth chapter.
You want to speak with him in the following locations:
Chapter 1: Cave near Bamboo Grove
Chapter 2: Village temple area
Chapter 3: New Thunderclap Temple
Chapter 4: Webbed Hollow (inside a cocoon)
Chapter 5: Furnace Valley
After speaking with him in the fifth chapter, defeat the Keeper of the Flaming Mountains and speak with him again to get the transformation.
Purple Talisman Quest
The Purple Talisman Quest requires you to find and tear off four talismans in Chapter 4 throughout the Webbed Hollow and Temple of Yellow Flowers. Everything leads to an awesome boss fight against the Supreme Inspector, and you get a nice Celestial Nonary Pill for your troubles.
You must find and tear off all the talismans before you beat the Hundred-Eyed Daoist in the Court of Illumination. If you don’t, you’ll get locked out of completing it.
Conclusion
2024’s Game of the Year contender brings a lot to the table when it comes to exploration. Knowing that some things could get missed makes the world feel more real. Of course, if you want to experience the world for yourself, you should buy a Black Myth: Wukong Steam key.
